Looking to buy a
DVD-recorder with 1080p upscaler
Okay, so just got my HD tv last week, so I now i'm looking to upgrade the rest of my equipment to get the most out of it
First is the DVD player, I'm not fussed about blu-ray for the moment, I imagine i'll get a PS3 for that in future. I'd like to get one that also has a dvd recorder as well, as at the moment I only have a VCR, so i can then ditch that, and put a few old tapes onto discs. So any recomendations, i've been looking at Panasonic DMR-EZ27EB-K, which seems to have everything I need. Anyone have any experience of this unit, or can they recomend anything else? Thanks |

You don't say what TV you have, you might not get any improvement from an upscaling DVD player.
If you do think upscaling will improve your picture then the EP30 HD-DVD player is available really cheap and an excellent upscaler. |

Oh right, I was under the impression upscaling was good for any HD tv, what would I need to look out for then and how do I know if it's going to give an improvement on my set

Only way is to try it, upscaling DVD players are mostly a con, your TV already upscales anyway - it's just a question of which does it best. A good quality upscaling DVD will be better than a cheap TV, but if you have a decent TV then it's probably already as good (or better) than an upscaling DVD.

I have the Panasonic DMR-EZ27EB-K and had it since it came out. Never had problems with it.
I was dubious about the upscaling, but one day a dvd stopped half way and wouldn't play, so I put it into my 360, which is also connected HD, but the picture wasn't half as good. That is connected to a Pansonic TH-37PX70B. I don't need the hdd on it, due to my Sky HD box. |

Do they compete with one another, the upscalers.
