It's not "Come up and see me" by Steve Harley & the cockney rebel is it??
I could have sworn they used it as the theme tune - one of the verses starts "there's nothing left, all gone and run away..." - very distinctive song - a huge 70s number 1, used on the full monty soundtrack.
Probably one of the biggest songs of the last 35 years.

IIRC at one point it held the record for the most requested song to be played on the Radio in the UK - can't prove it but I do recall seeing this somewhere.
