I have a Panasonic TH37-PX70B plasma which is about 11 months old.

Last night while on my Wii, a green vertical line appeared a couple inches in from the right. A little while after, another one appeared just to the right of it.

When the screen is black, you can't see them, but while there is an image there they are green and change in bits depending on the image.

Can anyone advise whether this is terminal? I'm going to contact the shop on Monday as I have 3yrs warranty and hopefully it should be covered.

Thanks

You need to check the set on its own tuner or another input before declaring it faulty.

It's almost certainly a failure of the PDP (the Plasma panel), it's a common fault on Plasmas - Panasonic dealers are apparently changing loads of them. Make sure you contact them BEFORE the original 12 months warranty is up, as a replacement panel would almost certainly write the set off, and while your extended warranty would replace the set, it then voids the policy - just as your car insurance does if your car is written off.

Well I contacted the reseller this morning and I'm waiting for a call back from Panasonic service.

I'm hoping that it's not repairable and a new set will be needed.

If they replace the set you lose your 3 year warranty (check your policy), but under the initial 12 months they should repair it anyway, by simply replacing the PDP.

ah right ok. Will wait and see what happens. Don't know if it had any connection, but odd because for the last couple of days, the label that sits in the top left hand corner which tells you the AV channel you are on, has been sitting on the screen for a while, even though it should be going off immediately.

Is this with the D & G warranty that this void under replacement condition applies? I had a LCD t.v. panel fail a little after two years, which was found to be "Beyond economical repair" by the appointed service agent, so the dealer replaced the t.v. with one of same size & similar spec. This was good customer service along with the fact I was issued with a free extended warranty for the new set to make up for the price difference between the t.v.'s.

Sorry to jump in on this thread but i have a Philips plasma bought from Argos last July & i noticed whilst playing the Wii & on Sky last night i had a bright blue colour running down the left side of the screen, would this be covered by my 12 month warranty through Argos ?

Many thanks

I would have thought so, any 'fault' will be covered by the warranty.

Yeah, we've changed loads in the last year, at least 2 from the several couple of hundred we've sold!!!!!!
Have however had other brand lcds fail more often.

We don't sell Panasonic, but a rep came the other month and I had a Sony LCD on the bench, and he asked "do you change lot's of Plasma panels in Panasonic's", to which I replied "no, we don't do Panasonic, why?". He then said that everywhere he goes, that sells Panasonic, are having large numbers of failures of the PDP's, and most have multiple sets awaiting panels - which in my experience is pretty common on PDP's, resulting in many been written of.

BTW, do you have to return faulty PDP's or LCD panels to Panasonic like we do Sony ones?.

Interesting to read that about the Wii.

It was while I had m Wii on Saturday night that the lines appeared, and after switching it on again last night, another line appeared.

Not sure if I should mention this or no. Obviously I can't see no reason why the Wii wouldn't work with it. It's been fine up to now.

That is exactly what happend to my friends Philips plasma.

Still within 12 months from new (although he had a 3 year warranty on it). He called Philips who actually sent out an engineer. Engineer said it could be fixed but would have to be returned to Philips to do so. He says this *could* take up to two months and said (off the record) "If I were you, I'd just take it back where I bought it, explain the situation and demand a refund/replacement.".

He'd bought it from Costco so he took it back and exchanged it for a Sharp LCD which he reckons is a better picture to boot ....

(PS .... he doesn't have a Wii but does have a PS3. The blue parts were noticeable whatever the source was.)

Yep, I'm thinking mine was caused by the Wii, but they then stay no matter what input I'm on. My 360 has never caused this.

Wandering now whether the Wii is at fault and could happen again if tv replaced.

Errr .... how are you substantiating that?

How could it possibly be caused by the Wii? It simply sends a signal for the panel to display .... same as any other device.

Besides, if the Wii did cause problems with plasma panels, I get the feeling we might have heard something about it by now!

Yep I don't know, seems odd to me, might just be conincidence though that it happened as soon as I switched the Wii on.

Been looking at this thread http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/...5775974&page=0

They actually cause more problems with LCD's, with people getting carried away and smashing the screen!

Plasma panels have a glass front, so don't break quite as easily.

But electrically, a Wii is no different to any other signal.

Just spoken to Nintendo, as soon as I mentioned it, she suggested that the graphics card had gone in the Wii and needs to be replaced

We would assume then that it was only when watching the Wee that there were any problems? If you'd said that you would have got totally different answers. This is why everyone is always asked when they post a question to give as many details as possible.

Well the lines started while using Wii, but they are now permanent no matter what source I'm on

Then I don't think the Wii caused it.

Like I say ..... how can it?

If the graphics card in the Wii was knacked then it may produce a duff image but if other sources are affected then it's the panel.

I don't know. All I know is that the first 2 appeared when I switched it on Sat night. They then stayed permanent. Missus decided she wanted to use it last night, and just after we switched it on, another one appeared which is also no permanent on all sources
