East Enders Sunday not picked up by series link
Martin Liddle

I notice that there is an East Enders episode at 19:30 today BBC1 (Sunday) and here it has not been picked up by Series Link which is showing the Monday episode as the next one in the scheduled recordings list. Sheffield transmitter. Is this an ID problem?

I noticed that too last week, just thought I would leave it to see if it changes.
Although I had forgot about it so thanks for the reminder.

Edit: Just checked and mine is linked up ok.

I set the 19:30 East Enders as a single event recording. It appears not to have recorded. Only our second failed recording since going to 1.00.21.

I've noticed that if Eastenders is moved to BBC2 (when the FA Cup is on), then the recording has to be set up manually for that episode. The Series Link has to be reinstated the following week when its back on BBC1.

When setting the recording on BBC2, it does ask to confirm 'Series Link' which I always do, but it is still not picked up the few weeks later when its next on BBC2.

So, basically, Series Link doesn't seem to work across channels.

Apparently, FP specs allow SR to 'channel hop' (so I've been told).

I've have yet to see this happen*, and effectively, if this never happens then you are right - SR doesn't seem to work across channels.

*There have been countless situation where the BBC could ID programmes such that SR work across their channels. If they don't it because either they don't know how to or do not have the technology, then the FP specs is useless...

From : http://www.freeview.co.uk/docs/retail_licence.pdf , Schedule 4, it doesn't restrict requirements to single channel, hence you could infer SL is channel independent. Read sections 2.4.1 & 2.7.

I've yet to skim through the ETSIs spec, it's heavy going, but the whole idea of the Service Information (SI) architecture is to make navigation easy. The vast majority of detail is carried on all muxes, and a STB using the SI should find it easy peasy to find a SL on another channel.

That requires the broadcaster to insert it of course, and some are good some are bad at filling the SI up properly.

In the case of the BBC, the playout system is effectively automatically transferred into the SI. This is an extreme simplification of what actually happens!

East Enders again failed to record 19:30 on Tuesday evening. Didn't really matter as my partner happened to be watching live. I have now cancelled the series link and rescheduled it. Everything else is recording fine.

Yes, Tuesday 18 recorded OK for me as did all the episodes while away, from 13 to 21 March inc. not on Friday 14 as it wasn't on and NOT on Sunday 16 like you.

And no other SL failed while I was away
