Petition to give Jayne and Chris a Knighthood.
Millie Muppet
16-03-2008
If Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean were 20 years younger they would probably have knighthoods already, but it seems something has been overlooked there. Derek Beckham will probably be a Sir before these two are properly recognised.

So, ma'am, if you happen to read DS of a Sunday, how about it?

PS I'm not even a monarchist, I'm just very principled.

They've given so much to the sport, and do charity stuff, they're non-stop, give them a knighthood!

I think Torville would have to be a Dame not a Knight! They wouldn't give a knighthood to a woman!

They deserve it.

Seconded.

I bet 24 million didn't tune in to see Dame Ellen McWhatever when she arrived back.

This is much overdue, they are fantastic British ambassadors.

If Kelly Holmes can get the female equivalent of a Knighthood for running around in a circle a couple of times, then of course why not give the same to Chris and Jayne.

We should all fill in a nomination form for each of them...

You can do that here

Honours are not popularity stickers. Nor can they ever be as, if they were, we'd once have had Dame Jade Goody.

I certainly do agree J and T deserve a high accolade but for past and charity work not for DOI!

Also, you will be surprised how many people did follow Dame Ellens feat, which was incredible and does not deserve to be ignorantly blighted with a comment that a popular TV programme deserves more.

Yep that's what we need to do

I tried to set up a petition on the government website - but recieved this reply

Quote:
“ Hi,

I'm sorry to inform you that your petition has been rejected.

Your petition was classed as being in the following categories:

* Issues for which an e-petition is not the appropriate
channel

Further information: The Cabinet Office Ceremonial Secretariat
is now actively seeking direct applications for honours. Please
visit http://www.honours.gov.uk/”

So unless anybody has any other ideas I think we just need to get as many people as possible to send one of these

They definetely need to get the recognition they deserve - so any ideas???

honours are for doing good in the community and with DOI and their past and charity work - they have inspired a great deal of kids and adults into skating. With Make Me A Star next year that has been proven that DOI and their absolute mastery of the ice has gotten people into skating and doing different things on the ice. Perhaps one day in the near future - there might be a Royal Variety on Ice because of Make Me A Star which is a DOI spinoff.

I think a knighthood and damehood is a little OTT, mind you I think most of them are. Far too many of these are awarded.

Being a knight or dame seems a bit mad to me for dancing on ice.

Jayne and Chris have done a lot more for this country than just produce this great show.

They've done plenty for charity, and still do and they've worked non-stop with their skating and helping others on top of that.

OK, fair enough. I suppose I just feel an OBE is good for that, a knighthood requires some really serious stuff - you have have gone to the north pole in swimming suits or something! Joke. I'd like to know about some real stuff that they've done.

Being ace ice skaters doesn't really do it for me.

And I'm not picking on them, I think it's bizarre some of the other knighthoods that have been given. It's become so devalued.
