Tea smoked prawns
I got some organic king prawns from Morrisons yesterday. Mainly because they were £1 cheaper than normal.
Having seen James Martin do his tea smoked fish several times, I thought I'd try something similar with the prawns. After opening the windows and turning on the extractor, I placed two layers of cheapo tin foil in a pan - to stop it being ruined. I put in a bit of rice, six heaped teaspoons of tea and some sugar. Don't ask me what the rice and sugar are for - as I haven't a clue. Heated it up for five minutes then put in a bundle of the prawns and a bundle of surimi sticks, both loosely wrapped in foil. Replaced the lid and left them on highish heat for another five minutes. Turned the heat off and left it for ten minutes. Prawns were great, served with some spicy rice. :Surimi was awful and thrown away - don't bother. The whole house still stinks of smoke two hours later. Was it worth it? Well maybe. ![]() Anyone else tried tea smoking stuff? |
