Is the 9200 follow up still coming?

I remember reading back at the start of the year a 9200 replacement was due any week now but so far it's not come.

Is it still scheduled, at all? If so do we know what new it will add? I am expecting HDMI.

I am particularly keen on it as due to the fact Humax overdrive/over power their Scart ports it causes an annoying line issue on my Samsung LCD TV. I am hoping/expecting a model with HDMI will fix this.

I would like to stick with Humax as otherwise I think the 9200 is a fantastic PVR. The best I've ever owned. I've not considered getting a Topfield as they cost too much.

Thanks.

Anyone? Thanks.

You can get the Topfield for around 200 now. Surely an updated 9200 (which I have absolutely no clue about a release date) will start off around that price also?

In honesty, I would have bought the Topfield if it was closer in price to the Humax because of the potential added functionality.

Not sure where that idea came from. I had the vague idea that a new PVR was in the works but that it wouldn't be early 2008. No idea about the spec. I suspect Humax may want to do Freesat before another Freeview PVR.

I would surmise that a journalist or technology magazine misinterpreted the announcement of the 9200t with version 1.00.21 software as "a new PVR".

Really? Where?

Maybe it will. How much was the 9200 when it came out?

Correct:

I also read somewhere it would be at the end of January but I cannot find that link any more. I guess that was incorrect.

Thanks guys.

The first retailer to have stock was Comet @ £229.99

Thanks Barry.

It's now £170 though compared with £200 and something for the Topfield.

At SVP, the 250GB Topfield is 200.
the 160GB version is 170...(but this could be reconditioned)
there is also a 500GB model for 330, which seems a bit steep...

I bought my Humax last November for 150 from Comet...

Thanks

I never knew there was a 160Gb Topfield.

Surely the replacement for the 9200 will be HD compatible? I know that Sony are bragging about this for their Play TV add on for the PS3.

Humax may be waiting for the standards to be confirmed before announcing it and bringing it to the market.

You could well be right. Hopefully.

Is the Topfield TF5800PVR Freeview Playback compatible? Toppy's website only has the TF5810PVR is and that has a way to big hard disk for me.

I remember the other reason why I discounted the TF5800PVR now. It's so ugly and the remote is even worse.

I think I'll stick with my Humax 9200T/S for now. I've got so used to the line problem it barely bothers me any more. I mostly watch Channels 1-5 anyway and as they usually send out a decent bitrate I can barely see it on those.

p.s - The Topfield TF5800PVR is £169.99 at SVP (as the above member said) but it's also £199.99 for the 250Gb version from the same site and £199 from laskys.com. If I was to buy one I'd probably pay the extra £30 for the 250Gb version, over 160Gb.

There is Freeview Playback software for the 5800 as well, though it's not perfect yet.

...but with the Accurate Bookmarking TAP, it's pretty darn close!

There are quite a few threads now on toppy.org re the latest software that do not paint such a rosy picture (no Taps)

Oh, without doubt, a "naked" Toppy isn't as good out of the box as a Hummy (by all accounts). However, the TAP writers have managed to do a fantastic job by making intelligent use of the Accurate Recording flags and, by combining it with buffering, makes it most unlikely that you'll miss anything (other than that caused by major overruns on sporting events).

Thanks Guys.

Many say the 9200's Freeview Playback isn't great. I cannot say it's perfect but overall it works great.
