Which TV to replace Panasonic 32LXD700
As reported before I have bad backlight bleed/clouding on this TV and the replacement I got was even worse so have kept the 'old' one!
![]() I don't think I will bother asking for another LXD700 as, from reading other forums, it really does seem that the last batch were faulty. I was going to ask for a replacment from the 2008 range but don't know which one has the same specs as the LXD700? I don't want full HD as will only be watching SD for the forseeable future. It is such a shame that there is this problem as the picture (and sound)quality is stunning and I am afraid that another model may not be as good? Help, as always, would be very, very much appreciated!

As mentioned before, the 32lxd85 replaces the lxd70. As the 700 is not being replaced that is the nearest model. The main difference is the sound quality will not be as good.

So I take it if I get a separate surround sound system then it will be as good as the LXD700? If so, which would you recommend? Do you know how the 37LZ800 compares? Apart from being bigger of course! |

![]() I was actually thinking exactly the same thing this afternoon! I was put off Plasma because of the following:- (a) Reflection from screen (b) High Power Consumption (c)Possible 'green lag'? However, I am now thinking it may be the best way to go as it is going to be a real problem getting an LCD without backlight bleed. Do you know what the sound is like on the PX80 as the sound on the LXD700 is brilliant and I don't really want to get a separate sound system if it can be avoided? I will have to get the dimensions for the Plasma to make sure it will fit into the space I have(can't put it on a wall)and will probably need to get longer scart lead and HDmi cable for my PVR and DVD Player as doubt they will reach as they are really 'stretched' already connecting to my LCD. BTW of all my worries about Plasma power consumption is the biggest one since I watch at least 6 hours TV per day. Don't want my electricity bill to go sky high!!! Thanks. |

Modern Plasma's take far less power than the older ones, not that much greater than an LCD to upset your electricity bill a deal.
How about the reflection? Would it be okay if I drew the blinds during the daytime? Also, how do you think the 37PX80 compares with the 32LXD700? I sit about 9 ft away from my TV so not sure whether this will be too close for viewing SD? I am just so afraid that I may exchange and prefer the picture and sound quality on my LCD (despite backlight bleed). I really don't know what to do!

The PX80 is said to have better sound than its predacessor and louder too but without comparing yours and the PX80 i wouldnt know. If your getting a HD screen you are best getting a Surround System even a 2.1 system if your afraid of space / wires etc. you will find the sound from even a cheap/medium priced surround system is better than a flat panel TV due to depth of base and volume |

Reflection isnt a Big deal as long as you havent got a window behind you. You do get relfection more than LCD but its not as bad as CRT Because the screen is flat. The contrast and brightness is better however on a Plasma so this helps. During the evening Reflection is no issue at all but you do get some because the screen is glass. (although its not noticeable)

I do think I will be going for the Plasma then! I take it that a cheap HDmi cable will do for my DVD player? Not sure about scart? I will need to get both as those I have on my LCD will not be long enough. I will wait to see what the sound is like but which surround system would you recommend? Something which is easy to install! Yes I don't want lots of wires etc thanks!

Yes I don't want lots of wires etc thanks! ![]() 1 - Jo-public all in one systems. £200 -£1000 If your new to Surround systems go for the all in one jo-public systems from Panasonic or Sony- Panasonic systems have VIERA link too which with your Panasonic TV would make life easy. Goodpoints: All in one Stylish and brands easy setup Badpoints Sound isnt usually as good as seperates usually come with a DVD player built in amp so you cant customise and can be left with 2 DVD players 2 - Separates System. £300- thousands If you want decent pro sound and have a Budget however- i would recommend Amp and speaker systems from Yamaha and Denon you cant fault them on quality sound for around £300 - 400 Goodpoints Good Sound Customiseable beyond belief amp, sub and speakers options Badpoints Can be more expensive Harder to setup (but not to hard- researching the parts is key) again you will have to do research but going for a separates Amp + speakers system does work out better. If you are new to it all- go for an All-in-one then upgrade later |

Joining the band-wagon.............NOW!
The PX80 is a really good tv, have it on display as I write and the picture is not only much better than the lxd700 in my opinion, but much better than the px70 aswell. That is impressive in itself. To through a spanner in the works the 32lzd80 and 85 are due within the next month. both have an uprated sound system when compared to the lxd80, but from what we have gleamed form our rep, not as good as the lxd700. They are are however FullHD too. Don't envy your choices as they are all superb sets. My gut instinct is the 37px80, but I do much prefer Plasma pictures in general to the same size lcd. Happy hunting. |

Is image burn a problem now on Plasma? for the first 200 hours keep an eye on it - no dynamic mode and brightness and contrast set fairly low. like i have said in my PM i have not had any issues with screen burn or image retention and i know 3 others that have different panny panels including my parents and have had no issues. PX70 and PX80 picture quality almost identical. 100hz helps on some occasions, otherwise there is no discernable "real world" difference. ITs really down to preference for swivel stand, sd card reader and design...
