Subway fast food chain
Am I the only one who has really grown to dislike Subway? At first it seemed like a tasty alternative, but now (that it is present on every street corner) the prices have increased, the quality has decreased and the customer service is terrible.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. |

I've gone off it as well. Used to enjoy it as a Friday afternoon treat but as you say, the prices have skyrocketed. I simply can't afford to part with £5+ for a glorified sandwich. The smell from outside is increasingly nauseating as well.

There are at least 3 sandwich shops in my town centre that are better than Subway, yet Subway is the one with the queues because its the safe option.

The smell is pretty bad from their shops, and they're expensive for what they are, considering you can make your own - and you know exactly what's been put in too!
But I still find the independant sandwich shops are much better. |

I had a meatball one once and the 'brown' torpedo roll was horrible, all crumbly and dry.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I have 3 KFC's near me, 1 of them is deadfull the other 2 are great. It's just down to the franchisee and their staff. |

I still enjoy the occasional Subway sandwich. However I don't like the way they glorify everything. For example:-
Sandwich Artists™ Sandwich Artists™ have a positive outlook, thrive in a busy work environment and are keen to learn to art of great sandwich making. You will work well as part of a team, making delicious sandwiches to customer requirements. Erm, isn't that just placing sliced meat or cheese on some bread? Rather like coffee shops who describe their staff as baristas - a professional who is highly skilled in coffee preparation, with a comprehensive understanding of coffee, coffee blends, espresso quality, coffee varieties and roast degree - NOT just someone who pours hot water through some pre prepared grounds. |

On the odd occassion I go, I usually have a wrap - turkey melt or something like that. A 6" sub is too much. I do quite like the Oatmeal and Raisin cookies if they are cooked properly.

And if you dare to complain, they make you feel like you are the guilty party. I won't deny that 1 or 2 subway stores I have been to were OK, but the majority of them are not.
Its not even £5+ - it used to be around £6 for a footlong meal before, now its around £7 - you might as well pay a couple of quid extra and go to a retaurant. Sandwich artists? Don't make me laugh. The majority of their staff seem to be rude and dirty teenage boys who cannot even follow basic instructions. Yes I find the smell from outside rather nauseating too - I'm sure they do it deliberately (can't understand why, as it isn't very nice), as you can never smell anything outside McDonalds, Burger King, etc. Another thing I find - and this isn't just Subway (McD's too) - is that alot places think they can reduce the portion size of round products (burger buns, cookies, etc) and hope that customers won't notice. This doesn't really bother me, but it is a little bit cheeky. |

Subway is like a disease - have you seen the rate at which they are opening new stores? Other fast food chains are nowhere near as bad.

I have never really liked them and there used to be one near me but it has been closed down because everybody in my area hated it and went to KFC which happened to be right next door.

I really like subway, in saying that there is none near my work place or none in my local shopping center, so I rarely go. They are overpriced I agree on that, but I love a six inch BMT with jalapenos, pickles etc about once or twice a year.
If you are going to have some fast food at least it's not as greasy as McDs and it's ALOT more filling.

The SUBWAY® chain aims to increase the number of outlets it has in the UK and Ireland to over 2,010 stores by 2010. In 2003, the SUBWAY® chain beat its all time record for the number of franchises sold in a single year and its outlet sales continue to be extremely strong. http://www.subway.co.uk/business/facts.asp |

I think the bread at subway is vile, the meat is amazingly over-processed and the smell...
I disagree with the simile someone used for sandwiches and coffee though - I do think you can tell a cup of coffee that has been made well and with good beans, but I am a caffeine junkie. |

I read a while back that Subway is the most un nutritious take away you can buy due to the massive levels of nitrites in their ingredients.

i used to eat a lot of "pret" but recently i've been finding -
not much sauce in sandwich ingrediants/bread seems stale definatley smaller than the baguette used to be. |

Foreign rubbish I can do without. Not a place I would be seen in.
I've not been in Starbucks either. |

The first time I went to a Subway, my sandwich had a slice of thin cardboard in all the way through. I haven't been since.
