Carly Smithson (another typically outstanding vocal)

Brooke White (beautiful voice, beautiful girl, lovely personality, not her best performance to put it mildly)

Syesha Mercado (her best performance but still weak)

Jason Castro (the song suited his sweet persona but his vocals are getting worse by the week)

Ramiele Malubay (I far prefer Ramiele singing ballads, even if the judges accuse her of being boring, they are her strength)

David Cook (I struggle to think of anything to write because I struggle to concentrate when this predictable cliche is "performing")

David Archuleta (likewise :yawn: :sleep

Kristy Lee Cook (horrible voice and her too-small features and lanky frame look so awkward on camera)

But who is voting for Kristi- she must go soon

I have a feeling VFTW might pick her up so she could be around for another week.

Forever,I can understand where you and others might think K Pickler is predictable, I just find her amusing and entertaining.
What I can't understand, though, is why you use words like 'subtle' 'controlled' or 'impeccable' to describe Carly's performance. I am hearing the opposite.
I do think she has a beautiful tone and voice in general within her range. However, what is subtle or controlled in trying to shout nearly a full octave above her actual range in ways her voice is not built to handle? You can actually hear her take a breath in awkward places right before she forces/shouts out of her range, and hear the strain and cracking as a result of this abuse of her instrument.
.Her voice is still lovely, but it is painful to listen to some of what she tries to force it to do.
All the other oppinions on here are mostly subjective,but in this case, I really am wondering where these descriptions are coming from. Calling what Carly tends to do 'subtle' and 'controlled' is the equivalent of saying 'the snow that fell yesterday was warm and extremely dry after it melted.'
I agree she may still have the potential to be those things,and even maybe win this season if she manages to be those things, but potential and actuallity are not the same.

You're right, it is subjective, because I don't hear Carly straining or cracking at all. I hear the most controlled vocals in the competition.

In an earlier post you refer to her performance of Crazy On You. I thought that was the performance of the night.

You also say that she is more Alison Moyet than Anne Wilson as if that should be a criticism. Alison Moyet is one of the best voices of the past 30 years and in my opinion a far better singer than Anne Wilson, good as she is.

Bat, you saw criticism where none was intended, as I think Anne Wilson and Alison Moyet are both fantastic singers.
All I said was that Carly doesn't have the range for the song 'Crazy on You', wich is a fact, not subjective. Also not subjective is that she sings beyond her comfortable range, and in doing so, often forces her voice, sounds harsh due to improper technique and the notes being out of her actual singable range, and she sometimes misses notes or is flat. I base this on a working knowledge of the human voice and of singing. Flipside, within her range her tone is beautiful and meets the technical criteria for a 'good' voice, and she is in tune and consistent.
To call her 'controlled' or 'subtle' when she makes the mistakes she has made may be subjective, but it is also, technically, incorrect.
Subjectively, I actually like her voice when she isn't trying to make it do what it cannot,and hope to see her live up to its potential.
Why the angry post, anyway? It isn't as if I said she sucks. I don't think that. The Alison Moyet comparison was not meant as an insult. In your oppinion, I compared her to the superior singer, so whats the problem? No insult was meant.

Islands in The Stream by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton was 1983- so my bet it is Kristi chooses that.

That's a duet that doesn't really work as a solo.

An unsuitable arrangement hasn't stopped anyone tackling the impossible before... in my opinion Ramiele's performance was so dire last week because the song really a) shouldn't be sung by a female and b) shouldn't be sung by a solo performer (which is true of many early-mid era Beatles songs). I wouldn't put it past KLC to do 'Islands', definitely suspect a country song from her this week...which will possibly save her for another round!

I used "impeccable" because I thought she sang what she did well and I maintain that. It's like the criticisms of Michael. Some of the song choices may have been from left field (and let's not think that they are given free rein over these choices) but what he has sung, he has sung well. He has hit one duff note in all these weeks and yet some who have hit more bums than you could count on your fingers and toes (naming no names but he shares a surname with another contestant) are praised to the hilt by some people on here.

Bonfire for @Halo, Are you classically trained? Not much change to what I heard before. The hunting sound remains. Which to me is almost Kate Bush like. I paid attention to the guitar and drums sound this time. I think thats what makes the sound affective-if I can say so. Because it is minimal music it heightens the effect of your voice. Which does work.
Wreckless Glamour:Gentle drums and guiter effect, almost like a lullaby. Are you postioning yourself for the 'calm' market? I think the sound is different. Although similar to the former

Yesterday I had a full house. We watched 'The Rock school ' Film 4, with adult adolesent Jack Black and the kids. I almost became one myself. It was fun though. What a treat it was to watch 'The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agancy'. It was witty, humourous and serious at the same time. with talented actors especially the brilliant Jill Scott. RIP Anthony Minghella-very sad.

School of Rock is a great movie!
I am trained, but not extensively classically trained. I was encouraged toward it because of my large range and voice type,which is why I can execute those high scales, but I 'feel' other types of music more.
Not sure what kind of market we want to appeal to. I just make music I 'feel' and hope people will connect with it and like it. (One of the many reasons I chose not to sign to a record label).
What you said about the music being 'minimal' is exactly what my husband thinks works best...anyway, will take this to pm...(when I figure out how to ...I'm still getting used to this forum! )

Forever Awkward, that is a fair enough reason to use the word 'impeccable' in my oppinion despite the mistakes, I do think she has a beautiful voice and hope to hear a great performance from her in the future.

I hear can hear the classical sound coming through. Now I understand that it was encouraged to go with your voice
and range which suits you. This makes you unique. Thats one of the reasons why I could not help comparing you to Kate Bush.

Yes, I could 'feel' that you are a feeler type like me. You make music that you feel and to some extent speaks to you in many ways. This is when good music is made.

I agree with your husband stick with Minimal music to show of your voice. It draws people in which is great.I have seen your PM post I will reply soon.
