Duffy is over hyped nonsense
've never heard any music - even although I've been gone from Wales years ago. Doesn't wash.

Duffys hype is deserved imo, shes got a great voice and her album is fantastic, she cowrote all of her songs, no doubt she will win best female at the brits next year..which would be a vast upgrade from kate nash.

Just listened to the song for the first time on youtube, I'm not really into it but she does have a distinctive voice.

Compared to some of the other so called "artists" Duffy deserves all the hype ! |

Not really my thing, but I do think she has a fantastic/ unique voice...which is nice to hear in a sea of blandness/ banality of some other singers in the charts.

It looks like you've only got half the quote there and the first bit has been accidentally snipped off. |

She has a great voice IMO. Its not as good as Amy's, but she's still very distinctive sounding. She's also very good live.

I've only heard four songs from her so far, not big on what I've heard apart from Mercy, Mercy is a very good song. Anything that reminds me of that type of music from the 60s/70s is wonderful.

I wouldn't say she's 'nonsense. Duffy's very good at what she does. It's all been done before though, hasn't it?

I really like Duffy, She is so much more talanted then Mrs Winehouse in my eyes. Distant Dreamer is my favourite

NO, not overhyped at all IMHO ! She does have a very distinctive voice, can and does sing LIVE and as mentioned co-writes her songs !
Compared to some of the other so called "artists" Duffy deserves all the hype ! Never thought I would like her music. But her music could have been popular from the 20's unwards. Its not out of place today. Every song for me is just mesmerising and lingering. At least real singing is making a comeback. Her voice is very unique and can listen to her all day. Timeless! Its raw, real and imperfect which makes it stand out. Like Billie Holiday's voice was. Now am not comparing her to Billie. She is not jazz and nothing like her. Duffy is blues and soul. The singer does not have to be black or white. She is naturally sexy, charming and flirty. Am waiting for a deluxe album from her. ![]() ![]() Babeth |

Well I think she is certainly better than Adele and most of the others. Have to say, I do think Amy Whinehouse's songs are better - but I'd rather have Duffy singing them (much better stage presence).
However, I am a bit sceptical with so many "co-written" songs... I mean Robbie "co-wrote" lots with Guy Chambers. Also a little pet hate of mine are these stage school wannabees trying to pass off as being "too cool for school". |

I think the singles are very good indeed (Rockferry/Warwick Avenue/Mercy) but the rest of the album sounds a bit weak to me.

Exactly she is not over-hyped which is a change from Whinehouse. Live she sounds just like her records.

I'm with the original poster - I think she's a bit manufactured.
I think she has a distinctive voice and I don't have any issue with her an a singer. But its clear as day from her press that she's been manufactured by Bernard Butler and her label. She's described how BB told her to listen to certain 1960s artists of the style she is now singing - hence force feeding her her influences. I'm not saying I bregrudge her success, if it has to be someone why not her? But she's definitely been packaged and presented in a certain way - which I know happens all the time, but to claim its authentic or that she's in some way 'different'........ |

leave the excuses to one side - Amy is completely unprofessional and wastes what talent she has. as a vocalist and performer, Wino is not fit to lick Beverley Knight's boots. Duffy may not be a unique talent, but at least she is professional. |

I think she is absolutely dreadful.
Her voice grates on em and I find her preformances as dull as dishwasher, all seems so contrived and disingenuine. It is just rehashed 60s stuff, big deal. I thought her performance at Glasto was awful. Cute outfit but all this posing, she's trying to do the Kylie sexy thing and cannot pull it off. I found it embarassing to be honest. |

I think she's a great singer but she's just as manufactured as anyone else so I don't get all this credibility she has over some other artists.
