Hmmm I'm fairly new here but I just noticed that there seem to have been two whole users banned today... judging by the threads I saw I can see why one was but not sure about the other

Anyone care to enlighten me so I don't make the same mistakes..?

(Oh and I did read the forum rules but still unsure why one of the 2 got banned...)

without knowing the facts

i can say that one of the worst things you can do
is disrespect another poster

whilst it is okay to express an opinion about the topic
abusing a fellow poster could result in a ban

is this what happened today?

Just respect other people - even if they have a different opinion than you.

If you arent winding people up - why are you posting this on the BB forum?

A mod will move it to the right forum.

Occassionally everyone hits on a subject that someone knows a lot more about and gets upset .. try to give a reasoned response.

LK - gets well upset sometimes and forgets about seasoning!

OPs . reasoning )

Generally we are nice on here . so get to know us and dont be rude )

Not exactly, you could be a bad person and annoy others will your opinion, but are actually genuine, if misguided (ie Cam fans )

Whereas a troll does not beleive in their convictions and only does it to geta rise out of FM's - and cause an argument.

Can anyone explain why internet groups use Troll as a description for this type of person?

I always thought of a troll as being a creature from Scandinavian folklore, normally a cave dwelling, giant.

I believe the original 'troll' lived under a bridge and ate goats. Possibly.

*Puts on nerd hat* The original use of troll in this context came from usenet (so the story goes). A tactic used here was trolling, which is named after the practice of fishing by throwing a baited hook from the back of a boat. This got conflated with the sense of troll being a mythical creature, and thus the message board troll was born. Thus endeth the lesson.

In an attempt to drag it painfully back to BB I've always thought that being a successful troll would be a good BB tactic, but Fed and Jon both tried it and nobody was taking the bait. Purely to be as non-confrantational as possible.

Ah...No I disagree here....Playing devil's advocate to encourage conversation is slightly different to being abusive on an internet forum out of malicious intent to cause offense.......

Thanks for the info, hadn't even considered the fishing connection.

I can understand you finding trolling tedious - but the term? What should be used instead - the much more tedious "you are deliberately posting provocative messages designed to elicit an intemperate response"? Saying that would get old real quick. "Troll" is a succinct and apposite word to describe a common practice.

Funnily enough, it's the anti-Jon trolls who seem to get banned though isn't it?

It just reminds me of fables and nursery rhymes and that doesn't really fit well into an adult forum...well not for me anyway...

I'm surprised many people didn't get banned in the Alex-Kate war last year...BTW, is that still on?

Funny that. Isn't it. There are some really vicious and very offensive posts from certain Jon fans in here on a regular basis and they never seem to get banned.
