Help with Nokia n73 and "not enough memory" warning
gonnaenodaethat
20-03-2008
I have a n73 and I can't add anything to my contacts or calender bacause it says I have to delete some data first. I've deleted everything I can I think of from having no messages in either in/out/draft boxes to clearing browser cache and all my games highest scores etc. This is the phone memory it says I have

47MB memory in use
118kb free memory
15kb calenda
92kb contacts
239kb messages
0b images
0b sound files
0b video clips
144b documens
2124kb applications

It just doesn't add up and there's nothing I can delete. I have messages I can't receive and I'm at a loss as what to do apart from launching my phone across the room.#

I have a 1gb memory card in it and that has 942MB free memory so memory shouldn't be an issue.

As it is at the moment I can't add any contacts or anything to my calendar.

Can someone please help me out. It would be very much appreciated.

I've never used the email on it and its not set up.

I don't have any messages at all. No sms or mms.

Its a strange one isn't it LOL.

I've tried taking out and replacing the battery and charging it as I've heard that helps but its been days now.

With a phone like this I should be able to keepo more than 1 message in my inbox i reckon.

reflash/reset the phone is the only method to cure it. you will lose everything stored (but you can do a backup first and restore later).

I'm really sorry but how do I do that?

I've just installed the Nokia PC suite onto my pc will I have to use that?

There should be an option under 'settings' to restore to manufacture default, or something similar.

I did the reset and its just the same. Gained a little but its still showing 43MB used. Any other ideas?

How old is your handset? Is it still under warranty?

Nokia actually offer a 24 month warranty -

http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4767801

Quote:
“Warranty period

The warranty period starts at the time of Product's original purchase by the first end-user. The Product may consist of several different parts and different parts may be covered by a different warranty period (hereinafter "Warranty Period"). The different Warranty Periods are:

Twenty-four (24) months for the mobile device and twelve (12) months for accessories (whether included in the mobile device sales package or sold separately) other than the consumable parts and accessories listed in (b) and (c) below;”

So, it might be worth giving them a call and seeing what they recommend?

If you do any browsing have you cleared the cache?
Have you used a file manager to check there are no extra files anywhere on the C: drive?
Do you have any background applications running?

I dont really browse but I've cleared the cache.

I've checked the file manager and all the things say no data.

I don't know how to check apart from holding down the circle button to see what s running on the my phone and even then it just says stand by.

My free memory is down to 9kb now and I have numerous messages to receive and I can't get to them.

Will maybe give Nokia a call on that number in amanda's post.

I've backed up everything from my phone to the pc now so can I flash it whatever that means? Will my games be backed up too. I have 9 games on my phone (I've cleared all saved levels and scores on them too). After forking out for them I don't want to lose them.

Heck maybe i'll need to find an o2 shoppee.

File manager shouldn't be showing (No Data) in every folder. After backing up you coucld try re-formatting (*#7370#)

I've flashed the phone for the latest version from Nokia and its 7mb less than before. instead of 48MB memory it has 41MB LOL.

Anyway evenrything is fine until I do my restore of backed up stuff and then the memory is filled straight away leaving about 100kb free.

Is there any way I can do my restore but put everything onto my memory card instead of the phone? In other words can I transfer my games from my phones memory to my memory card?

Thanks for your help BTW

sorted it. By a matter pf elimination I got it down to one game that was causing the problem so I deleted it and it freed up over 20MB space.

Thanks for all your help everyone

Which bit was irresponsible?

The OP had no idea what the problem was, the problem turned out to be a game (which he found through elimination). What would a service center had done?

Whatever your thoughts, the fact is that a reflash will get you back into a working state that will allow you to determine what the problem could be......if I was getting paid for my time then I may have spent longer typing something in .... but I had a holiday to take up my time

Thanks

Oh and I'm a girlie with a screen name I regret cos it takes me ages to type it in when signing in again LOL.

Sledge hammer to crack a nut. reflash, re-install should always be the last resort. it creates as many problems as it solves.

Where are my ringtones
where are my games
why can't i send mms anymore

it's the same as with computers, a re-install may solve most problems, but it's not always the answer.
