Well, actually Gos was brushing his teeth, so it was never going to be him, and Tania was still applying her make up. The others were asleep apart from Cameron, so I guess they made the call at the right time.

Of course, had a non entity like Gos been the one who entered the diary room, one must wonder if they would have offered him the chance to go, or if they would have just asked how he was doing?

The important question though... Why not have a task similar to the puppet races to decide who goes? One that we can all see, and there is absolutely no way of manipulating?

I certainly don't believe in a grand-scale fix, but on the other hand BB does have preferences and motives (last year, for example, they wanted a female winner so much), and they very much like a 'story' - whole weeks and probably longer periods of the show are structured around this. Unquestionably Cameron has benefited from this - the the laughable Cameron/Steph 'romance' was largely, if not wholly, BB driven (exiting housmates look incredulous when they hear about it). And sheer momentum helps things no end, so only a little nudge is needed (like Africa and the nomination holiday) to establish someone in pole position for quite a while. This isn't to say they definitely want him to win, but he is clearly the main 'story' of BB4 (Scott/Nush rather took them by surprise, and the trajectory of the series was too probably too entrenched for them to really get the best out of it).

Interesting. Haven't got E4 (but can't stand Cameron anyway) so would be very interested to know how E4-ers perceive Cameron, ie in contrast to C4.....

My point about Cameron's religious views was that it was unlikely that Endemol would directly favour Cam, as he is unlikely to appeal to most viewers in that respect. I suspect he was chosen for BB only in order wind up his more carefree housemates. (I am not anti-Christian btw, I'm just anti this particular Christian's lips-pursed judgemental tutting at everything.)
My reason for starting this thread was not to reignite the editing/fix argument, but just to see if anyone could come up with a motive for blatant cheating by C4/Endemol other than vague 'oh it's all about money' reasons, none of which really seem to stand up.

vw - as I said earlier, I don't believe in the big fix, but I do think BB are active during the series. Cameron has emerged as the main 'story' of the series, and he also represents something of a new demographic, so this might encourage them to favour him, possibly even unconsciously.

Of course the big fix is possible - haven't you read Ben Elton's Dead Famous ?!

Well, in my opinion (I say quickly), I think he appears one of the most complex characters, but not terribly likable. "Austere" is the best one word summary, but there is a lot more to him than that.

The biggest thing that C4 viewers miss is his bitchiness - he could win the world bitching championship with ease. He will literally bitch for hours on end (with co-bitcher Steph usually). This is rarely if ever shown, and the sheer magnitude of it is significantly watered down on C4.

He is also markedly different to men and women - women often talks down to, but almost never with men.

His "fighting words" are something that have only made it to C4 once I think, yet he is remarkably quick to talk about "suffocating/filling in/punching lights out/etc". I've not really figured out where he is coming from with this. It clashes violently (to coin a phrase) with his professed christianity - I've known a lot of christians like Cameron and he is the only one I've heard that sort of language from.

The long and the short of it is that on E4 he comes across as a complex individual, some good facets but some bad facets too - he is not satan incarnate as some like to suggest, but neither is he the second coming.

I feel vaguely sorry for him, because I think C4/Endemol have set the expectations unreasonably high for his behaviour when he gets out, and life may get fraught. Of course, some may say that's what you should expect when you go on a reality TV show, but I think that the editing for the C4 show has been shameful - both for Cameron in the long run (even if he wins), and for the viewers.

Camerons fierce "punch his head in" remarks are SO out of the character he is portraying that I think one has to look for reasons other than a simple " everyone does it but doesn't mean it" or "its his natural aggression showign through the repression".
He always makes them in the absence of the supposed potential victim and he usually makes them to a little gang of the lads. (For this purpose Steph becomes one of the lads).
My theory is that he is seeking simple house cred and believes that is what will endear him to "the lads" and especially the "chief lad".

so totally not the personna he has adopted.

His verbal violence may simply be blowing off steam. He doesn't like certain people and theur behaviour for reasons he would regard (sincerely in his own mind) as religious: atheist Jon, uppity women, loose behaviour. However to rebuke this in his preferred (moral and Christian terms) would, he knows, loose him votes quicker than anything - and he really wants to win, in his role as missionary for Christian values to a godless society. Thus, he deflects his feelings into less risky bitching and verbal aggression.

Possible. The one about Lisa was made in the Diary Room though, but this could be him trying to project Laddishness to the general public. I dunno - there is something just so strange about this Jeckle and Hyde mixture; it looks so false.

I watch both and I can't tell the difference.

I hope that when Cameron gets out his life is ruined!

He is manipulative, judgemental, mysogynist, a bully, lacking courage, approval seeking, violent, repressed...

Definitely the most interesting housemate on BB4!

For that reason alone a motivation for C4 to manipulate editing to keep him in.

Even Jon is losing his alure as his complexity is finally being bottomed and we are now seeing him as a "nice guy". But this has been the Jon vs Cam show, and that's why C4 have put Jon back in. People like Cam always win with the public vote, especially when faced with people like Jon or Lisa (Nush was associated with these). Jon is courageous, radical and slightly pompous: saying it how it is. Cam is a coward, manipulative, devious, a master of non verbal communication (a technique that most Cam fans will deny actually exists). One of the reasons why Cameron is such a poweful character is the way that he deceives the ignorant...this is just like real life and relevant to our everyday lives. What is even more fascinating about him is the way he hides this, so that people only very slowly see him as the evil, hypocrite that he really is.

The fact is that practically the whole world liked Cam and was irritated by Jon in the first hour of BB4. The more you know them, the more that changes. People like Cam are successful in life, because business requires superficial relationships like the ones Cameron excels at. Long term friendships need something entirely different.

Excellent post, Plato. I like the way you make the point that Jon became popular because of his flaws, rather than despite them.

Cameron is loathsome - only BB3's Jonny is worse in terms of "unlikeability".

The key event in this year's BB was not so much the Night of the Long Knives before Jon and Fed's evictions, but the way BB represented that night in the press (and all other news services picked up the story from the official site) and on the edited highlights show that was shown while voting for Cameron and Jon was still going on. That helped Cameron just beat Jon, but it was close.

It was very odd that the reporting of this event odd was so extreme. Usually the reporting on the official site is pretty balanced and fair, and doesn't pick extreme points very often. (Admittedly, I don't read the official site much now. I prefer DS for BB news.) The reporters would have been aware that how they reported that event the night before an eviction would have some effect on how people vote.

Then with Cameron winning the task, getting picked to go to Africa, getting immunity and all that followed, it was clear that he was this year's BB winner. There would be nothing that the other HMs could do to stop him.

I should have put a bet down at that point. I would have got good odds, and it was obvious to me that Cameron would go on to win.

As to why they would want to do this. I don't know, but the analysis above is pretty sound. We may have to wait for an insider to break ranks to really find out why they wanted this - or just look at the fallout from Cameron's win.
