My Tiscali TV Warning

I was talked into upgrading too tiscali tv by their telesales as it was just £30 the installation ...

I got the Tiscali TV terms an conditions two days later , what a con ........
You are hiring their equipment the STB for 12 months the stb always remains there property if it goes wrong/gets faulty its £250 to replace !!!!! (what if it gets a fault... what a rip off )
If you opt out an dont want Tiscali tv after 12 months you must return the box in a *working condition !!!*(you must pay Tiscali £250 if the stb doesnt work /faulty )

In the small print it tells you, if you have Tiscali Tv on you *may* get bad braodband speeds so you need to do one or the other , either watch tv an no online , or online an watch no tv .. lol
WHAT A JOKE ...
I rang an cancelled it ...
I have sky + in front room thought this would be ok for the Dining room tv ...
Btw no subtitles on Tiscali TV
Dont bother with Tiscali Tv ...

Tiscali just gets better and better!

I can appreciate that having the Tv service on will affect the internet speed but the t & c regarding the set-top-box if it goes faulty is a joke!

I thought that all hardware comes with a 12 month warranty? How the hell can they justify charging £250 if it goes faulty....

What sounds like a great deal to begin with can easily turn into a nightmare if something goes wrong.

They sound like a bunch of cowboys.

Once me free offer runs out Im' running for the hills... Even Sky doesnt seem that bad in comparison to Tiscrappy!

I have checked this and you only have to pay if you have in some way damaged the box yourself. If it's faulty you get an engineer out or a replacement at no charge. Sky charge for maintenace I think, as you own the box.......

The amount of FUD that gets posted on here never ceases to amaze me. Tiscali and Homechoice do not charge to repair/replace a faulty box while you are a subscriber - it's Sky that are the rip-off merchants in that area (although you do keep the box at the end of the contract in Sky's case).

The amount of FUD that gets posted on here never ceases to amaze me. Tiscali and Homechoice do not charge to repair/replace a faulty box while you are a subscriber - it's Sky that are the rip-off merchants in that area (although you do keep the box at the end of the contract in Sky's case).

I agree, Sky owners seem to be a zealous lot.

Can I please state here in the terms an conditions,

it says nothing about free repair/replacement ,!!!!!

it does stress that you sign this hire agreement, (which states about the £250 replacement /repair)
or else the fitter will Not do the install !!
That is why I refused to have the STB in My House !!
I was hoping tiscali would be better than sky+ an I am in no way a sky fanboi ..lol

I have seen many posts in different forums where people have had the TTV box replaced if faulty with no problems.We don't own the box,never will, and why oh why would you want to?You will never own your electric meter,but your life will be none the poorer for it.

that they repair your stb for free ....
why isnt there any info about it in the information pack , all I saw in the small print was the £250 for replacement /repair if you had a prob ?????

an the idea that if you have the STB switched on you may get bad broadband ,IT STATES the solution they said was either use the net or the TTV but Not together ...hmm

an as for keeping the stb ....
I didnt want it ...
but to be held to ransom on the condition after 12 months of the stb to return it an pay £250.....is a rip off !

What I will say is that you don't have to pay for a replacement Tiscali box. Having said that with Sky you do have to pay for replacement dishes that are out of warranty, but then I would expect that as they corrode after years and years if being stood in the wind and rain, but then there is insurance you can take out to guard you against that with Sky!!! I still pay less for a lot more with Sky than I did with Tiscali!! Sorry but I havr proof of that, and have no problem posting my bills to prove the comparison between the two!!

Thank you for that ......I dont know why they dont tell the TTV customer your stb is free repair ....
an flim flam you with this written *£250 replacement/repair* you Must sign before install...

Can you tell me as a TTV customer have you noticed this bad broadband thing when the stb is on ?
Have you had any probs with the stb ?

im on my 3rd set top box since xmas.. the hard drive failed on both... they were replaced free of charge

I only give praise when it's due Peter!!! I have found Sky very helpful compared to the inadequate service I received from Tiscali after the swap from Homechoice. I was extremely happy with the service I received from Homechoice and I too came on here and defended the service from time to time. When Tiscali took over it deteriorated. I had almost everything on the Tiscali platform (apart from the asian channels and also Chelsea TV and the adult channels) and was paying around £100 a month, but with Sky I am paying roughly £76 a month for all the channels and £9.99 per month for Setanta. Both services I didn't pay line rental to each comapny for and paid that to BT, so I have saved alot of money. Not only that but I am paying the same amount for broadband at 16mg with Sky that I was with Tiscali for 8mg.

It's nothing to do with praising companies it to do with showing the Tiscali are actually making an award winning service (when it was with Homechoice) into a mediocre service in the space of a year. I didn't even have this sort of problem with Telewest when I was with them for goodness sake!! LOL

Tiscali TV is an adaquate service if you cannot receive Sky for some reason or you cannot get Virgin Media digital TV (like my wife and I couldn't in our last property), but if you can then Tiscali shouldn't even be considered!!! Sorry.

I got registered here to praise the first poster , My OH got us signed up with this Tiscali TV after a telesales call,
I have done some reading up here an at other forums regarding TTV an I rang Tiscali to put some of my concerns regarding these issues to them before I get lumbered with 12months of hassle ,
I was given the cancellation number in response ... !!

so I cancelled my installation !

What Wonderful customer Service ..NOT !

Tiscali compete with Sky, which makes them a threat to the livelihoods of thousands of small businesses that do Sky installs and sell Sky equipment. Sky themselves are a monolith who squash all all competition in the UK.

One sec Peter.... No one has a vendetta against Tiscali, just that we are making our feelings known on the poor customer service that we have received since the takeover of Video Networks Ltd by Tiscali. The service I am afraid has gone downhill since the takeover and the CS's department have no idea what they are talking about. They are clueless. Here is just a few examples:

1) When I phoned up Tiscali to get Disney Cinemagic, the week it first appeared on Tiscali TV, for the kids I was greeted by a CS sales rep who told me it wasn't available. I told them it was showing up on my screen as available to which they told me 'I must have got the wrong number only Sky has it'. When I said NO I am a Tiscali TV customer and 5 or 10 minutes of verbal jousting he told me to hold and finally he was told BY HIS MANAGER YES IT WAS AVAILABLE and it was in the kids pack. Again not true as it is a subscription channel.

2) When they got the Sky Channels on Tiscali we still couldn't receive them for 3WEEKS because there was still a fault with the signal!!

3) I phoned up to get the Line Rental from Tiscali, only to find out that even though I had asked for it on my package it wasn't added on to my package at all because they hadn't contacted BT to sort it out. I phonmed them about this on THREE seperate occasions and each time they didn't do it and couldn't give me a reason why they hadn't contacted BT.

Sorry but Homechoice was a great service, Tiscali is mediocre in comparison. Still, the only plus is that it is betyter than BT Vision...... JUST!!

If Yes can you explain to me why the customer service is so poor ?
Some other Points that the first poster brought up which you dismissed casually offhand because they are banned,

In the welcome pack TTV send you they do not tell you it is a free repair ?...
But its a £250 replacement - repair ..
So you can understand potential TTV customers would be worried !
an on another point ..
My OH was told by Tiscali sales we would receive the FX channel in the free variety Pack , I was told by Jeff on another website this isnt the case an Tiscali dont get ALL Sky channels ?
Why does Tiscali LIE like this ...?

Im just glad I didnt sign up with this shower ...
Jeff a guy on another forum told me to ring up the customer service an ask my questions about the channels/stb/web speeds etc , this way I could judge myself wether they are any Good ,
I got my answer they couldnt careless an I cancelled ...

I will take a look at Sky instead .....maybe get with it with HD !

I'm not going to defend Tiscali TV (I'm thinking of leaving rather than migrating from homechoice), but it's just ridiculous to slag a service off because they have something in the contract to protect their equipment. There's nothing in my homechoice contract that says you have any responsibility for repairing the STB if it develops a fault, and I suspect the Tiscali contract is the same.

Of course not, I'm just one of the 99.99% of people who don't have a problem with Tiscali TV. If I did, I'd switch to Be and wouldn't bother posting here about my ex-ISP.

Stop repeating that false claim about £250 repair for the STB. Nobody has EVER paid for a STB repair.

TTV maybe ok but the customer service is Dreadful ....
an if the stb fails .. etc hassles .. staying in on workdays, days on end, for scrappy half use stb repairs .....

which show free view an a handful of sky channels .. Bah ...NO THANKS !!!



as someone said on another board, Origional sky years ago ...

That's true, I've never heard about anybody being charged. Perhaps it is to prevent wilful damage

99/0....Faults ... well we have poles as tele phones they ready ..

fact was awful .. in the uk we have towns of call centre staff .. ..
