Component better than scart ?
I have ps3 and sky hd connected to my tv by hdmi and the dvd recorder connected by scart as I ran out of hdmi ports . Would connecting the dvd player (which has hdmi upscaling) give a better picture if connected by component . I don't even know what component leads look like ?

If you're just using it to watch DVDs you've recorded yourself then there probably won't be much difference, there may be some improvement if the DVDR upscales better than your TV - though you have the PS3 for that). Component will allow progressive output so may be better for films.
The best thing is to try it and compare, component leads are cheap - basically phono leads. Just buy a cheap set off the internet (google) but remember you need three connections for video plus two for sound. |

although component can be used for hd, most upscaling dvd players put an sd picture on their component outputs because it would otherwise be a way of getting round the HDCP copyright protection offered through an HDMI connection to prevent hd copies being made.
would it be better than scart though? certainly but i wouldn't advocate using the absolute cheapest cables, it is after all an analogue signal, buy some semi-decent ones! |
