My guess is that although they want it to be played as the original we have to move with the times and take into account changes that have occured and that to find a Nancy at 17 that has been working most of her life or who can act that way without the experience is a very tall order!
Without doubt and worldy, older more experienced girl will be far better for the part and make it more believable.”
Guys Guys, you seem to be missing my point I am not saying its the right thing,i also agree that they Nancy should be played by someone in their mid twenties, and that to get a 17 year old, who can carry off being a prostitute and thief since she was about 5 years of age, struggling to eat and the closest thing to a father is Fagin, who God knows what he has made her do in the past but is practically her pimp is going to be almost impossible, but if there is any chance of finding it, then that is what they will go for. All through Nancy school, all ALW kept refering to was the book. That is what they want to go for, the darker side of the story not the cheesy tits and teeth musical numbers, a bit like what Polanski did with his version of the film, he was keeping as close to the book as possible, unlike previous versions.
