The point Im trying to make is it is an ACT!
The actors and actresses need to act and to act in a believable way. As you have previosuly said you would think mid twenties would be a good age!
So we are somewhat agreeing in a roundabout way that 17 is way too young for an actress in 2008 to play the part of Nancy!
Yes we definitely are agreeing to a certain extent, I do think 17 is too young, but maybe we are on the verge of discovering a 17 year old singer and actress way beyond her years!!! I very much doubt it to be honest but it is possible. Most of us have the image of NANCY ingrained in our brains, as do I from the Musical film version, which is that of a fiesty young Woman, so it is gonna be hard to brush that off. ANyone who has not seen the film probably has more of an open mind as to what they think Nancy is like. If some one has only read the book, they will have an image of Nancy in thier head that someone of an older age may not fit. At the end of the day it is really all our individual opinion isn't it, some see a more traditional Nancy others see something completely different, I think that ALW and team do not want a traditional NANCY, but its the public who have the right to vote and we shall see if that is what the public want.

Yes he did !
Can you see a 17 year old Amy Winehouse.....Errrrr NO !
Finally the penny drops!

now you are starting to grasp that all this spin on Oliver is just to grab a few headlines and seek publicity, it has nothing to do with what will happen on stage. Besides loads of the Nancys have appeared either in shows or the media and are not total newcomers,

You have Cameron Mackintosh involved who told the last team that created Oliver that it had to be like the film onstage and nothing else,
If it looked like the Sean Kenny original which had a theatrical sense or was completely different he would have sacked the whole lot and started again.

This is theatre by numbers time, it is not creating anything new, it will be a re hash of all the old versions but primarily the movie.

Sadly, you are probably right, we will all be mightily dissapointed by the end product and want a refund, but alas I hope not.

Which is exactly why I have no problem with 17 year olds or 40 year old Nancys depending on the age of Sikes it does not matter.
I saw some really awful acting in those auditions from all ages and a couple of good performances as well so age is no guarantor of quality.

Personally I think the Olivers are generally the ones who can't act.

It'll keep the coach tours happy I guess, who will watch anything as long as they can get some chocolates before it starts and have a Gin and Tonic or Sherry in the interval while they discuss with the others on the coach if he or she was how they pictured them on the telly.

I have a feeling the production is the one that was at the Palladium a few years ago and not a new show.
It seems it will be at Theatre Royal Drury Lane though after Lord Of Me Ringpiece closes

Hear, Hear, very well said!!!!

Age does not necessarily mean quality, I have to say even thoug I was surprised she got through to the final 12, Niamh is actually a very good, strong actress, I just hope for her sake that it comes across on screen.

With Nancy Nancy gone, I'll fall back on my other favourite Jodie (AKA Blackpool Nancy)

I hope she does well, and she certainly stands out, she's the only one you actually hear speaking on all the promo's

I guess we will all have a better idea after the first live show

its very possible we know eachother, but if we were to say what we do, we would probably guess who the other is and then we would be that much closer to getting into trouble!!!

Ah those dresses! I thought you meant the ones they are wearing to sing their solo numbers in!

So not giving anything away will you be at the live show on Saturday playhousechick?

No not those dresses, I do not want to divulge too much as it may then get others into trouble as it may get quite obvious where my info comes from.
But I can say I will not be at this coming live show no, and bysaying that Speilberg, you will probably be able to eliminate certain aspects of what my connection to the show is, something tells me you might be there on Saturday.

P.S who is your favourite, do you have one???

I would be interested to know what your thoughts are??? However I think your right to have more than one favourite. My thing is out of all of them I have my favourite performers but they are not necessarilly my favourite Nancy if you get my meaning. One in particular is a fantastic actress and singer, she has worked professionally before, but I just dont see her as Nancy. However this provess is not like anything they have ever done so who knows how they will react as the weeks go on. They are genuinely a bunch of good girls though, pesonality wise I mean.
