Wot DVD should I buy??
UM3R

I recently bought a YAMADA 2100 DVD player only to discover that my old SCAN is much better in play DVD-R's, etc than the new one.

The DVD-R's i use to record my stuff on are cheap 59p ones which work fine on the SCAN SC-2000 I have. However, the same discs.. (many of them) get stuck on a regular basis with this one..

SO!!

I have decided to go for a new one.. I want to go for something which will play everything... MP3's, MPEGS, JPEGS, DVDR's, etc..

can ya guys recommend anything?

BTW.. thank ya all for ur suggestions on HOME CINEMA pacakges.. I have bought a cracking WHARFEDALE and PIONEER package and am very happy with it..

I have to recommend the Cyberhome CH-DVD 400 available from your local WHSmith for only £49.99. Absolute bargain. I have been through 3 dvd players since 1999 and I have to say that this has been the cheapest and best one ever.

I plays the following DVD/CD/DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW/VCD/SVCD/XVCD/MP3/MP3-DVDs/CVD/MPEG/JPEG. Also multiregional (just ask for the region hack instructions at counter, if not can get them on web).

Excellent picture and sound and its so tiny at only 22.5cm x 6cm x 24cm (WxHxD). It comes with a 2 years warranty from WHSmith themselves.

Go here to see it in more detail

If i was you, and youre looking for a cheap Dvd player

There is one is ASDA a Scheider 857

It's does everything it's £59.99 and comes with a 3yr War

http://www.reviewcentre.com/review11025.html

For more info

And it can be hacked, and plays VCD/MPEG/DVDR Etc Etc

I know the other is £10 cheaper, but you do get an extra year grantee on it

And it's 5.1 ports aswell, i would check that the WHSmith one has got that, as you said you got a home cinema, you need to make sure it's not a 2 way one, make sure it's 5.1 otherwise it wont work proplery on your system

I've got one just for R1 and it's Excellent

Why not go for another SCAN player? My 440 seems to play anything that's thrown at it, it's multi region out of the box, and it's now down to £70 (and it's also very thin).

Macrovision is the encryption standard that stops you hooking your DVD player up to your video and then flogging pirate videos at the local car boot. Some players (I think there was one from Bush) had this feature disabled (although they were usually withdrawn once everyone found out) and some players can be hacked to remove it. You can also hack your video, or add an external stabiliser to get round it. Sky also use it (or something similar) to stop you copying Box Office movies. That's my understanding, anyway.

I had a problem with the sound on my Cyberhome DVD player from WHSmith.

Just took it back today and swapped it for another, hope this one works!

Pacific 1002 from Asda.

They are multi-region and can have macrovision disabled with a code through the remote.

Plays all copies
MP3
MPEG in data format on a CD
Video CD

Asda are now selling them for £44

I have just bought one to replace a 5 year old Pioneer. The picture quality is surprisingly very good. Sound quality is same as it is hooked up to a Pioneer THX amp via optical.

Cannot recommend it enough.

I own a Pioneer 444 DVD and it is the best DVD player I have ever owned.

It's Muiti-Region, Has Pal60 (I hate NTSC) and has a setting on it very few DVD Players do "Picture Adjustment" You can adjust anything from the Brightness to the Sharpness. I have mine set to full Contrast, Full Chrome and Full Sharpness and the Picture looks amazing and I have a "50hz TV" even better you can get rid of the flicker on the DVDS if like myself you also have a 50hz TV with the scan line modes and the Progressive Scan modes. Default setting is 550 but you can raise it to 650 on "Pal" The picture was just amazing!

Go and get one!
