Since we went over to sky surf, speak, see we had to have a bt phone socket installed, since then our phone calls have proven to be a nightmare, as everybody we call can't hear us, and mentioned it's a hissy background noise, which we to can hear, we always contact people by moble now. Contacted sky who asks me to ring bt, bt tell me to contact sky  we never had this problem with our previous phone providers which was ntl. Any ideas how I can sort this

I take it your line rental is still with BT?

If so do a test call ot three over BT instead of Sky.

Dial 1280 in front of the number you wish to dial so the call is placed back over BT (and billed if chargeable by BT).

If the calls connects fine with no noise, then that rules out BT as the problem and the problem is with Sky.

If you still have the issue then the problem is somewhere from your master socket to the BT exchange.

If line rental is with BT you can still also use Call 18185 for other calls that will be cheaper by 18185 than via Sky or BT.

Try dialling 17070, and select QUIET LINE TEST, the line should go quiet, and any background noise obvious.

Cheack you have ADSL filters on every socket in the house, and that the phones are pluged into those not directly to the wall socket.

Try new ADSL filters & borrow someone else phone to try out BEFORE calling BT / sky.

Do the 17070 teset with the new filters / phone and see if resolved.

BT or SKY (BT openreach) will charge you a call out fee should there be no fault on thier part of the line, and it is not cheap! However if you exhaust all the above and it's still a problem then contact the company you pay line rental to, they are responsible for faults.
