The Final Task
Svaughan
20-07-2003
The ninth and final task has been announced, and it's one that requires a whole lot of brainpower.

Big Brother will be canvassing the housemates' opinions on a variety of subjects over the next three days, including moral, political, cultural and humorous.

The gang members can be called by Big Brother at any time of the day or night to talk about the required issues.

The subject matter is not optional and the guys (and gal) cannot refuse to talk on any of the given topics.

The even trickier bit..?

Each housemate will be required to talk about three brain-stretching subjects each day for a minimum of ten minutes.

Why didn't they do this 8 weeks ago?

It has potential, as an idea, but this lot will make a hash of it.

They've just discussed their views on abortion. It took less than 1 minute.

Didn't they have a Christmas party in Celeb BB 2?

So why are they all talking about such matters now? Are they practising their own beliefs?!

Oh great. Now they've been told by BB they're not allowed to talk about it.

There goes that idea.

The idea has potential except that running a monologue on certain subjects isn't as straightforward as it seems. Blagging can only get you so far, esp. with the HMs that are left. Unless it is an emotive topic or something that the HMs are reasonably versed in, this task can backfire.

It will, however, be a golden opportunity for Scott to implode with his retarded and perpetual fence sitting.

Perhaps an in-depth discussion and deconstruction of Christianity with all HMs made to take part:

Steph : "Well it's oilroight re-oily"

Ray : "I have enuff respect for em like so I have"

Scott : "But they do tho' don't they?"

Cam : "Aye"

Jon : "Cam you're talking bollocks. I'm off to talk to the tomato plants as I get a more intelligent conversation."

Or maybe not...

From the official site - "Each housemate will be required to talk about three brain-stretching subjects each day for a minimum of ten minutes."

Is that 10 minutes per subject or 10 minutes on 3 subjects in one go?

Either way, I would find that difficult, and I think I'm more able to do it without constantly repeating myself and adding lots of "ummm"'s and "er"'s than most of the housemates.

Jon will probably have no problem with it.

Cameron should manage it with lots of eye rolling and pausing to choose his words carefully.

Ray just has to talk fast and keep repeating the same sentence over and over again, loike, and they'll never notice.

Scott will be like a lamb to the slaughter. Count the number of times he says "dunno" and "y'know?".

Steph will use the first 8 minutes or so with a gasp and "oooh that's a hard one .... it's weird, innit?......well, I don't really know..."

I can see them failing this task.

I read it as being three subjects within a space of ten minutes. That is why I believed it wouldn't be straighforward unless the topics could invoke emotions, e.g. capital punishment, or they had some expertise in (cooking for Gos if he was participating).

As you mentioned, expect lots of padding and filler. It will be a pressure task because the HMs will know within a few seconds of hearing the topic whether or not they will sink. I just hope that Scott will do a Fed on the task and lose votes. However, with the stupidity of today's teens, this is perhaps a tad too optimistic.

Yes, because it will be a matter of guesswork as to who holds what views on the various subjects.

This bunch of HMs have never held serious discussions and even when factual information is talked about in the house (like this morning when Cameron was talking about his work/life in St Ettienne, it was blanked out).

They will obviously be given this reward for Thursday evening, as one of them will be leaving on Thursday .....

That was the exact thing that sprung to my mind when I saw this task. A GREAT idea for an early task, so that not only will the housemates expose their differences early on, but the public will get to know them all very well.

This sort of task *must* be included in the very first week of BB5.

Maybe they thought it would take too long / be too difficult with 12 of them in the house?

I agree it would have been better then.

Damn! I thought this was a good task as we were starting to get an exchange of views between the housemates. Until BB told them to stop colluding.
