Recovering contacts from broken nokia?
Hypnos

Hi

I recently dropped my nokia 6233 down some stairs and now it wont power on as the power button is broken.

The screen is also cracked but if i could get it to turn on i was thinking i could get it to work long enough to get all the contacts from my address book.

Is there any way i could salvage something?

If you can connect it to your PC using a data cable, and you have the nokia PC suite, you can back up your phone.

Ive tried that but with no power to the phone nothing seems to be happening.

If you've knackered the phone completely you can probably kiss goodbye to your contacts and anything else in it. You could always contact Nokia for advice.

Always save your contacts to the SIM!

Well

In a last ditch attempt to salvage my contacts and files I managed to pull the phone apart and turn it on by fiddling under the power button with a screwdriver.

Allthough the screen is whacked I managed to connect the phone with PC suite and recover all my files!

Happy days!

Thanks everyone

It is also possible to store your contacts on-line. Nokia offer contacts backup as part of the free My Nokia service. O2's My Bluebook also offers free backup of contacts and messages.

Thanks, i'll look into that. Safer bet would be to back my phone up at least monthly!

You can also use these services to easily transfer contacts to a new phone.

Smartphone owners can also use a free "mail2web live" account to backup contacts, email and calendar on-line.
