Can you help me guys and girls - I own a SE P1i and SE M600i both on T-mobile and have the same issue, also seen this issue on another forum with the Nokia N95... so sure it is T-Mobile rather than the phone... although, suppose it could be Symbian, but then it would happen on all networks and only heard about it on T-Mobile.
I live in central Croydon, as London's most populated borough and because it has loads of offices, it has a very strong 3G signal.... but although I live centrally, I sometimes can’t get phones calls, make phone calls or get the web in my own flat! Turn off 3G to basic old GSM and guess what… all is fine. You really see the problem if you have push email with Gmail, if I have 3G and GSM on you will get the email... in the end but not always in a few seconds, not good as the reason for having push email is of course so you get them in a few seconds!! And what good is it if you cant even get phone calls! It is after all… a phone. And this doesn't just happen in Croydon, had the problem in Oxford Street and over at Docklands, to name but a few areas that has a strong 3G signal.
This sounds very much to me like a contention issue, could I be right? They don’t have the capacity to take the level of 3G activity on T-mobile, you see the mini world flashing like mad on the P1i trying to connect, then you get it sometimes in the end, or comes up with an error like 'can't locate server' ….what is the point of 3G on T-mobile, if it takes you longer to connect to it, than using just GSM in the first place.
I try and make a call walking down Oxford street, just bleeps at me, then drops out. Turn off 3G to GSM and can make the call... Its doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen a lot.
What do you think? This has been going on for sometime now and have read about this problem on another forum. Could it also be to do with T-Mobile RAN sharing with 3? Not sure that has started yet though.
