USB transfer speed issues

Humax switched on and not recording, however transfer speed sometimes extremely slow (4 hours for 1GB). Invoke power reset and transfer speed usually back to normal. I didn't seem to have this problem prior to 1.00.21, any ideas / anyone else had this problem?

Briefly, I think the new software is more CPU hungry.

Do the following when transfering:-

a) Slide open the flap and press the radio button (bottom left). Leave it on Radio 1 when transfering files. (You should notice the fan go off, radio doesn't take up as much CPU time as TV!) Don't record anything or use the humax to watch TV when transfering files.

b) That's it!

It worked fine for me and I had no transfer problems till the upgrade.

What software are you using to transfer to the PC? E-Linker, Media Controller, Media Controller GUI?

I use Media Controller with default settings and usually get between 1400 - 1500 KB/s. (1.1Gb usually takes around 12-15 mins to transfer)

My routine:-

1. Use the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the PC's taskbar to remove my internal flash memory card reader (shows as drives K,L,M,and N.) If I don't do this then I'm limited to around 900 - 1000KB/s

2. Go into 'Menu' on the Humax, then into 'Record', and then into 'Recorded Programme'

3. Start playing a recorded radio programme and pause it. This seems to give me the best transfer speeds, but I haven't tried transferring while listening to live radio (yet!) but tried most other combinations.

4. Now start Media Controller on the PC.

5. Press 'x' (for Xfer) and 'a' (for 'Video Humax -> Host') and then type in the numbers of the programmes I want transferred separated by spaces.

6. Press 'Enter' and come back when it's finished.

I only discovered version 1.05 of Andy Chappell's Media Controller (Thanks again, Andy!) last night, but it seems to have restored the stability I had transferring before going to the latest firmware on the Humax (V21).

There are various other things you can do at the PC end to try and improve speed/reliability of the transfer, but they've been covered at some length, both here and on Hummy.org, so I'll let you use the Search facility if you haven't already done so.

Anyway, hope this was of some help. Happy transferring! (4 hours for 1Gb! )

Many thanks for the replies. Transfer s/w is the standard Humax GUI facility, I think it is E-Linker? I will try your suggestions and also have a look at Media Controller. Cheers.

John, You'll probably have to update the Humax USB drivers in the device manager if you try Media Controller, as I don't think the official Humax drivers are removed even when you uninstall e-linker. I think there is something about this in the readme file that comes with Media Controller. If you have problems post here and I'll do some step-by-step notes for you (assuming someone doesn't beat me to it!)

BTW, making sure that all your drivers (especially motherboard drivers) are up to date can also make a BIG difference to speed and reliability of your transfer.

Good Luck!
