Chips - what sauce do you have on them?

Being from the south of England, the done thing is to have tomato ketchup and/or salt and vinegar. I don't mind salt and vinegar but I've never been a fan of ketchup, I find it a bit too sweet. I'd rather have plain chips than have ketchup on them. I think the northerners have the right idea with gravy on chips, which I like, as it reminds me of gravy on roast potatoes.

I also like chips with mayo, which is apparently popular in holland. Sometimes I mix a little English mustard with the mayo for an added kick.

I had Chinese curry sauce on chips for the first time ever just now and that was gorgeous, so I think that'll be my new fad for a while.

What do you have on your chips?

I like a dollop of brown sauce on the side of the plate, so I can dip them at my pleasure. Ketchup second. Mayo - never!

Mmmmm, I love chips! I don't often have them, but when I do, I like a big bowlful, always with a bit of sea salt, and with either (vegan) salad cream or mayo, ketchup or barbecue sauce. Or maybe curry sauce

I like salt and vinegar or ketchup.

For curry sauce, I often use Wing Yip's Chinese Curry sauce concentrate. All I do is add boiling water from the kettle to a few spoonfuls of concentrate and voila!

Surely salt and vinegar is all that is required. Unless you're Belgian, that is, when mayonnaise seems de rigeur.

Chilli sauce, or sometimes ketchup. Vinegar is essential, and mayonnaise just tops it off.

If it is chippy chips then just salt and vinegar for me!! (with a big pickle to go!!)

I love a portion of chips and curry sauce out of the Indian take-a-way shop too!!

Another vote for the above - but it's got to be full fat or home made mayo...none of that reduced fat stuff

If I cook chips at home, i just have a little salt and lashings of vinegar on them.

If i get them from the chips shop - i like salt, vinegar and some tomato ketchup.

I dont know why this varies .... i just like the chip shop chunkier chips, and they require tommy with them !

Dutch style - double-fried chips with satay (ie spicy peanut) sauce. More calories than a week's worth of full English breakfasts, and more fat than a sculpture carved from butter, but delicious all the same.

Chinese curry, sweet chilli, peppercorn sauce, gravy or baked beans and grated cheese - only one at a time though!
