I have been on that forum rather than on here up to now this year and though there are quite a few David C fans on here, they are not as blinkered generally as some of those on the AI forum. I'm convinced his family has registered under several user names. There can be no other explanation for such adulation of such mediocrity.

At his best, he is left wanting. This week he was distinctly less than average.

I totally agree about Syesha. She's not a match for those she is going to be compared to.

I too thought the judges must have been hearing something else when Chikezie was singing.

I think the only talent show contestants who have pulled off a Freddie Mercury song have been Elliott Yamin, G4 and Rhydian Roberts. Michael did well though and what I noticed was a bad sound mix on the vocals, lead and backing, and music.

I don't know how Carly can ever compare unfavourably to old scouring pad voice.

David A and Kristy were Master and Miss Puke from Pukesville, Pukesylvania.

Maybe I was not very clear in my post. As this is a singing competition dont you think you have to sing comfortably without instruments?

All the people you named have sang without their instruments more times in their careers. But when with their instruments they have made it fun. Today fickle lot will soon be bored by a young woman who is constantly behind her instruments without a sense of fun. However, if you do not like R & B/smooth jazz and blue you will not like this example . But Alisha Keys for instance sings from the heart standing and is fun on her piano singing. She is one of the few I want to see live.

Anyway this is a matter of opinion.

After reading through these posts, I have to say that I am annoyed by the screaming 'fans' the producers get in to cheer for the favorites (David A) too...but I also find it funny, as well as interesting in a study-the-hype-machine kind of way.
Michael actually did get a slightly bad deal as far as his vocal in the mix, but he was still good, not great.
I can not understand how anyone could call what Syesha did this week screaming or shouting. She was controlled and only reached, not strained, on a few of the higher notes.She knew exactly what her voice could and could not do, and she did just enough to prove that what it can do is quite a lot! She is no Mariah or Aretha, I agree...but she doesn't have to be, and I think she has the potential to set herself apart.Her voice is beautiful, and when she chooses songs that suit her,I hear star quality.
I can see where Chikezie's performance could come across as cheesy, but I still loved it, and I don't think he has shown everything that great voice of his can do just yet, either.

Well it was better this week than previous ones. Ramiele has potential but she shouted too much in that song. I thought Kristy was really good actually but David Cook stole the show for me. David Archuleta was good too but not outstanding like David Cook. Can't warm to Syesha or Brooke.

Conspiracy theories? Dude, it's a reality show, not Area 51

A lot of the 'conspiracies' are actually based in facts, and many are not exaggerrated. But for what it's worth, they crack me up, too...which is good, because otherwise they would make me cynical. What the show does is done for a reason, and not always what is in the best interest of the contestants. They must have known that going in though, and felt it was worth it. The contracts/agreements they have to sign are outrageous. That is not a theory, I have seen some of the forms. Basicly, the producers can edit however they please, portray the contestants in a misrepresenting way, and the contestants can do nothing about it once they sign that paper.Not saying the show will deliberately make the finalists look stupid, as that would be counterproductive and ridiculous....however, they don't have much control over what they ultimately sing or how the public is made to see them.

lol...I would think they have to know by now that "reality" tv isn't exactly real and that editing can do all kinds of things...its the "voting doesn't really count" and the "producers will let whoever they want win" comments that crack me up. The whloe franchise has too much to lose to gamble on cheating....jmo.

Well I can't agree with that Candy Store. I have just watched the show and he wasn't just the best on the night, he was in a different league to every other performer. What on earth has happened to David A? He has lost his timing, his confidence, everything. Get him back behind a piano quick.

I was sorry to see Chikezie go, but I was not surprised. as I said in an earlier post, I didn't expect him to outlast other more conventionally marketable contestants.
I had to laugh when , during the final segment of babbling by the judges, Simon said there are stronger 'performers' in this competition, when he usually says stronger singers,because there was no way he could have gotten away with saying there was a singer in this season who could match Chikezie when there so obviously is not.
I am glad Syesha made it.
I was not surprised to see Chikezie in the bottom three, but Syesha being there surprised me.
Jason, I was not surprised to see bottom 3, and also not surprised that he didn't leave yet.
Based on performance and vocals, Kristy or Ramiel deserved to leave.
Kristy's redneckaliciously patriotic song choice saved her. I have guest-judged at karaoke contests where every contestant could sing and perform better than her. I don't dislike her, and am not shocked that she is still in,as she is the only country type this season, but she is the least talented of the top ten.
Ramiel deserved to stay more than Kristy did, but not by much .

Anyway, well done to Chikezie for making it to the top 10.

Well, I almost called it correctly when I predicted Jason and Chikeze being in the bottom two. I don't think Syesha should have been there at all, but I do understand why. I feel that she's masking her inherent bi*ch/diva self, but not enough where people can't see through the facade. (I guess it really does take one to know one and I totally see it ) She needs to just embrace her inner bi*ch because it is what it is. The struggle to mask it is killing her and I predict that her mask will slip, and hopefully soon enough for me to feel more comfortable with her. Obviously she's been taking too many tips from Doolittle last season - and didn't she just tire the heck out of me with that 'who? you mean little ole me' every damn week. Sheesh.

As for Jason, I'm just soo pissed that he's been calling his perfomances in for the last couple of weeks. Simon said as much. It's not cool and America proved it by not picking up the phone and voting. Next week will be interesting and if he doesn't fix up, then he'll be right back on the Seal again.

As for Chikeze - well, no big surprise there. Not cute or adorable or talented enough to have 'his audience' voting in their droves. Mediocrity sucks.

Not quite sure what's going on with David A either, he seems to have lost his mojo/the plot somewhat. He's another one who needs to embrace his inner diva. He may not be my cup of mocha but there's no denying the kid's got talent (maybe he should be on the 'other' show).

David Cook was hottt last night and good on Sprinkles for ensuring that everyone knew that he was 'clearly' doing a cover of Billie Jean, just to dispel any Daughtrycoverlovin' hate from the fans.

As for the rest - borefest and a bit too much suckage for my likings - meh.

Chikesie didn't deserve to go home yet, I would have gone for Ramiele.
Being in the bottom 3 could be a wake up call for Jason. He has a very nice voice, he needs stronger performances.

I wasn't surprised by Chikezie going home, either. A bit surprised by Jason...mainly because I thought he had more fans...regardless of talent.

Sounds like it'll be a country theme next week...yeehaw!

Thanks for your post Singythingy. Always an insight into analysing these results. I am going to put another twist on this. Many will disagree no doubt. But it should be examined.

First, I did not quite expect Chikezie to go although I did predict it. Mainly because of the cheese factor. But he will have a career. I sincerely wish him all the best.

Now, My Syesha been in the bottom three that's a suprise. But then again not really, as it is more a popularity contest than a talent contest. However, she made it. As for some people thinkng she is not what she seems or is a bitch. Do they know her? She is on a television programme to be judged because that's what happens. They also want her to be what they think she should be.

What I think is significant today is that she is the last African-American singer left in the competition. No doubt critics will put a spin on this. This is where it gets tricky, if she goes next week or thereafter she should be happy with what she has achieved. In fact, celebrate it. I think it would be a good thing if she goes sooner rather than later. I remember my favourite Jennifer Hudson going out in 7th place. But then there were other African-Americans in the competition and one of them won. The fact is Syesha will be remembered by the R n B population as their star this year. Yes, there is Ramiele but she is Asian-American and will be embraced by all. I could imagine either African Amercians or the R nB population will switch off or those that like other types of music will continue to watch the programme and vote. I sincerely hope they stick with watching the show. It's great this time around.

As for Rameile and Kirsty staying over Chikezie. Does it matter really considering how this show works? Looking at it now talent or not they will out last Syesha. This my prediction.

However, this view examines the reality and the bigger picture of the competition.

I'm not surprised Chikiezie didn't have the votes and was sent home, but he certainly didn't deserve it. He has so much more potential and the ability to interpret and sell a song which some others left in the show don't have.

I agree that both Ramiele and Kristy should've gone first. Kristy's flag-waving and competence in singing that type of song bought her a week or two, but she just has no stage presence at all and will have to learn some before she hits the Branson, Missouri circuit.

Ramiele bugs the heck out of me. Her little girl act is nausea inducing. Is she five? Could she try and act her age, which is, at least, older than David A.

Syesha's problem is that she has a very unappealing personality that overshadows her competency as a singer. And, note I say competency. She's certainly not a bad singer but, when you come off as an entitled diva, you'd better have the pipes, stage presence, and understanding of the music to back it up.

Finally got a chance to watch it now. I am surprised by the experience of these finalists -- Carly released one disastrous album from MCA (I bet those are going for good bucks on eBay), David A won Star Search five years ago. I guess in the haze of pop culture ignorance I've been in over the past 5 years (I ran a side business and worked later hours than I do now) I must have missed the rules changing (I thought you had to be virtually an amateur to make it here.)

I was a bit surprised to Chikezie leave. While his performance wasn't top-half it certainly didn't merit bottom of the barrel. I'd have voted for Ramiele to leave myself.

I suspect the editing plays a huge role in personality-based shows like The Bachelor or Survivor, where the producers want the audience to cheer for/against certain members. I saw this the most in Joe Millionaire I, which was the last reality show I really followed. I can't see the producers purposely telling an unwanted contestant to sing a song unsuited for them, or telling to use a bad band arrangement (e.g. Carly on Tuesday.)

If I recall correctly, Idol's contract is more about how every note the finalists sing belongs to the Idol machine for the next N years. Is it still the top 10 singers that get to go on tour this summer?
