I checked my bank account online this morning. BT have taken their latest direct debit payment three times instead of once. Luckily there was enough money in the account to cover this.
I phoned BT. It took two 0800 calls and about half an hour. Neither of the people I spoke to could understand English numbers, so I had to count to get them to comprehend the dates of the transactions. The computer system that BT call centre staff access has no record of the multiple payments yet - it might do after tonight's update run or tomorrow night's. No joy.
I phoned my bank (Co-Op). That took about twenty minutes on an 0845 number but the person I spoke to could speak English. They confirmed that it is a BT computer system error that is affecting about 5000 Co-Op Bank customers. They are getting BT to fix it and that will take 24 to 48 hours. There's no need for customers to do anything, they said.
Has anyone else had the same problem? Any comments?
