I knew Ray was an England fan!

He was talking at length a while ago about England's chances in the qualifiers and recounting how he had worn his England shirt in a Dublin pub during their 5-1 win over Germany in 2001.

Very unusual to say the least, there must be only a tiny handful of Irish guys who would support England instead of the Republic

Is that so unusual for someone who only moved to Ireland when they were 10?

Yes,but he has no blood ties to England, that's what makes it slightly unusual, his father is Kenyan and his mother is Irish.I got the distinct impression that if England were playing Ireland, his allegiance would be 100% behind England (he mentioned in passing that Ireland 'were playing' the same day as the 5-1 win - they were indeed and beat the Netherlands). He's an interesting character who clearly feels a strong emotional attachment to England and not Ireland (probably explains why he emigrated to London when he could easily have found an IT job in Dublin).
