i am probably going to be shot down in flames for this.....but here goes.
I have decided that we are all too critical and sometimes cruel to all the HMs. i have been thinking a lot about this recently , probably after reading some of the threads, and have come to this decision.
We are never likely to ever know any of the HMs personally....we cannot know what they are truly like from 9 weeks of watching carefully edited highlights. They are all trying to function in a most difficult environment, getting along with people who outside they would cross the road to avoid. They realise that every cross word, every fit of rage, every weak moment will be shown to thousands and then pilloried when outside the BB house. Come on all of you ...admit it...could you go in there confident that you could cope with the sort of pressure they are under??and emerge as a great person.?
I obviously have my favourites....would be no point watching otherwise...but hate to admit that i would probably display most of the annoying habits and characteristics of the other less favoured HMs over a period of 9 weeks incarcerated with people i did not particularly like...ie i would have probably threatened to choke lisa, i would probably have irritated veryone with my voice, i would probably have screamed and thrown things etc etc......I will never know what those HMs are really like on the outside of the house...its foolish to think otherwise.
none of us are perfect....and i reckon that we should just give all the HMs a bit more empathy.....

The best way of forming opinions about the big old bad world we live in is to be exposed fully to people views and intolerances and then make a personal evaluation on that. If I felt that people were holding themselves in this forum it would actually be like watching BB itself!

I agree saddo, there is no way we can know the people in that house. Yes we can make judgements based on their time in there, but the environment they are in is not a natural one. For instance some people say Cameron has problems with intimacy, but have they seen him alone with a woman he likes? No, they've seen him in the BB house where he knows there are cameras and a viewing public watching his every move.

However part of the fun of BB is in making those judgements and arguing about them with others. Sometimes the hate or the love gets a bit out of hand, and indeed the opinions tend to show more about the person making them than they do about the HM they are talking about, but as humans I guess we have a right to be irrational and critical. Someone I know tends to look for what they like in someone, not what they dislike. Maybe that's the best way to be, but it's far easier to hate.

So while I agree with your point about showing them more empathy, I also think it's all part of the experience. It's a nice idea, but it's never going to happen.

Hay you are a real Class Act - On one hand say that we shouldn't comment on the housemates and the you deem to tell us what we should be doing - which you can't - no one is going to listen to you if you think you can tell then what to do!

I utterly agree we should be kinder to them. They are in a hugely pressured situation. There are very few that I've ever disliked. Three or four in four series: Sandy, Fed, Stuart and Andrew spring to mind.

The current final 4 are all essentially NICE people...

thank you Khayman for that reasoned and well thought out reply....thats the sort of response i was looking for....i do realise that BB would be a completely useless exercise if we all practised what i have just preached....BUT i think that i was just feeling a bit p******* off with reading some of the malicious and unfounded comments from posters on here....(a lot of the time aimed at fellow posters.)....i was just having a 'nice' moment...

People are always going to be critical over housemates thats what the voting scheme is based on, its how many choose their favourite.. People who like one person will criticise another for whatever they do. We live in cynical world and thats never going to change i'm afaid. Not havin a go it's just my view.

As Scott said about opinions ' there like a$$ holes everyone's got them'

TBH I've only seen a few comments here that went too far in my book; eg. the one from the other day about how Jon should have been aborted was pretty vile IMHO.

I wouldn't be kind to a rabid dog so I won't be kind to Steph. An old nag like Cameron is best put down with a swift bullet to the head. Especially if it's lame.

Having strong opinions is what the game is about. That's what a discussion is isn't it an exchange of opposite opinions? or at least contrasting opinions. So sometimes the contrasts are a little stark. It's only human nature. find the weak spot and go for it like a rat at a jugular vein.
Team A pits themselves agains team B and all hell breaks loose. As long as the opinions stay as just that and don't get personal then we can walk away like adults and think no more about it should things get heated.
But just like parliament opinion can lead anywhere and cause all kinds of mayhem and it's the adventure of seeing where it leads that makes this forum experience fun.

Its funny how people who defend their 'right' to be nasty and spitefull towards hm's, react with such petulance when THEY are on the receiving end of critisism.

I agree with the first poster. Theres nothing wrong with constructive critisism at all,but the nasty, spitefull and abusive comments some people make WILL kill the show eventually. because NO hm will ever dare do anythign that might attract the attentions of the hate mob.

when I see such comments as 'so and so is a B**ch and a slapper', all that does is cause me to dislike the person making the comment. it doesnt add anything to my knowledge of the hm or change my opinion of them in the slightest.

yes, but this behaviour is BECAUSE of the harsh critisism and sometimes frankly abusive comments made about BB hm's.

What happens when HM tries to be as you say , fun and entertaining. THE PUBLIC KICK THEM OUT!.

there is nothing wrong with critisism!!!. Its abuse and spitefull comments that some of us do NOT see any need for and will kill bb eventually, because no hm will ever do anything interesting!. I can quite happily say I dont like Cameron , and give reasons....I will not indugle in the sort of prejudiced,pathetic and nasty comments that sometimes pass for 'free speech'.
