'phones "tied" to one network

Although I have a lovely Nokia 6300, which I take everywhere with me, I bought a smart cheapie mobile from my Sains - to just kinda "leave hidden in the car" in the case of Paddington Bear emergencies (marmalade sandwich will be in the glove compartment )

However, as lovely as it is and as cheap as it was, it is "tied"to the Orange network - I have removed the Sim and put another one in and it knows!! it detected that it wasn't an Orange Sim card

I don't want to be tied to Orange, as I have a nice O2 Sim card with £10 on it, going spare and I can just copy over all my phone numbers and contacts that I might need in said "emergency"

Is there a secret technique or something that could be fiddled with, to make the 'phone network free again?? There must be something that makes it recognise the Sim card but what??

There are no memory cards in the Orange phone, just the Sim.

Nope, read again, thats the phone he uses all the time. It goes on to say he bought a cheap one for the car only and wants to unlock that one which is on Orange (That's the message i got from the post anyways, could be wrong)

In that case...

You will need to take it to a phone shop or a market stall. NOT CPW, P4U etc but one which advertises Phone Repairs as i find these often do unlocking and some even advertise it.

the little man who runs the shoe repair and key making shop has a sign in his window saying "I can unlock your 'phone"

thought is was a bit dodgy

I will call in and see how much he charges for that kind of "service" - if it's more than £9.99 I won't bother!

I'll just have to get used to using Orange

Unlocking will cost more than 9.99.

If the phone is only being used for emergencies. Make sure you keep it charged and make a call or send a text every few months to prevent it being disconnected.
