Is the Apprentice the greatest reality show of them all?

I would say so, you are never let down entertainment value by the hour of TV, it just seems to whizz by and most of the contestants are tremendous tv usually.

I agree, it is a wonderful mix of education, entertainment, psychology, problem solving, human relations, management, group dynamics, and features interesting and intelligent people.

No. Nothing is as good as Big Brother. But it deserves 2nd best

Nothing is as good as the Big Brother concept.

However, nowadays, I actually find the Apprentice more entertaining and enthralling than BB!

I agree. It is much better than any of the other reality TV shows. What other reality show can you think of that contain the aforementioned values?

As much as I love The Apprentice, Big Brother has to come first.

BB includes all of these in its tasks, but the last two are a little thin sometimes.

Looking back on my post, perhaps you're right.

But how exactly is BB educational?

It often informs housemates of other people's backgrounds. For example, I recall Nikki being shocked that there was no major supermarkets near Glyn's small North Wales town.

Also, the public are educated. The Jade Goody saga last year reminded us that there still is a racism problem in this country.

Plus, pshycological analysis on companion shows informs an audience why housemates are behaving in such a way.

Yes it definitly is!

I've only watched series 3 before, and was instantly hooked. I watch most of the reality TV shows (cept BB ) and it comes joint first with Strictly Come Dancing.

Yeah I tend to agree, I think BB has very much gone off the boil in the years since the Apprentice started and I think it's taken it's crown now!

Fair enough, though I don't think Jade Goody reminded us about that. We already knew that there was a racism problem in the country.

What you said. The Apprentice is a proper social experiment.

Big Brother? Each to their own, but I think the people who watch this crap cannot possibly be labelled intelligent.

It's certainly one of my favourites. It's in a genre all of its own though I think. The closest thing to it is probably "From Ladette to Lady" which I also like but nowhere near as much.

I think I'd go so far as to say "one of a kind".

I love SCD and DOI with a passion too, but The Apprentice probably pips it. However, it is different as they others are fundamentally entertainment-based shows and the Apprentice is supposed to be a bit more than that.

I am so off big brother after last year's utter rubbish that I will never watch it again and I do think I mean that. I have better things to do with my time.

So yes, the Apprentice has it, just. Mind you, I am now getting confused over the difference between "reality TV" and game shows. Most game shows take a selection of members of the public (or so we are told) and set them a series of tasks in order to win a prize (the tasks of course are usually questions, but sometimes like in the excellent old Krypton Factor or the Crystal Maze) there were physical tasks to do or other challenges. So what makes "reality TV" that as such?

I genuinely would like to know because I think the definition is very loose indeed.

I've just read one or two of the posts just before this one now, and I hasten to add that I am massively intelligent (I kid you not! ) but that's not the reason that I am not going to watch Big Brother again. I have watched 4 series of Big Brother and for the most part I found it quite facinating. I just haven't enjoyed the last two series very much because I have felt it was all far too contrived and there was too much outisde interference for it to be a genuine study and it because just a freak show geared to stimilation of a public with jaundiced tastes. Nikki was bad enough, but Chalie Uchea just sealed it for me. However just because other people like it does not make them any less intelligent than me any more than I am any less intelligent than my cat just because I wathed it last year and my cat wasn't interested.

Its the best of the edited ones served up as a weekly hour of TV. Beautiful editing, characters and drama.

The ones with 24/7 live shows can be more interesting, surprising and dramatic with the right cast and theme and if you have time to live the drama realtime.

The learn a skill shows arguably are better real tests of people's qualities than Apprentice tasks and SAS is just as unreliable at producing logical winners.

The greatest reality show of all is Premiership football. But the Apprentice is a VERY close second....

Cats, intelligent? Don't make me laugh! Lovely and great pets and good pest control yes a million times, but intelligent - no way! lol
