Joining 3

Hi all,

Does anyone know why you have to provide a credit card number as well as direct debit details to join 3? I am having problems because the one credit card I have is overlimit and I only have a cash machine card not a debit one.

When payment is taken by DD, why is this needed as well, and is there a way round it?

Thanks,

Adrian

Most mobile phone companies these days will require a small payment to confirm your details when opening an account. When you visit a store you take in your driving licence and passport, recent utility bill etc and they copy those as your proof of ID and address.

Well when we take a card payment we verify the address given against the address on the cards bill and also your name. This acts as our way of proving who you are.

If you don't have a debit card to use, nor do you have an alternative credit card you will have to visit the 3 store and take with you the aforementioned proof of ID (Passport/Driving Licence) and proof of address (utility bill dated within the last 3 months - some will not accept British Gas).

Do you really want a mobile contract when you're in debt on a credit card? o.O

Anyway, my card details were taken for the £5 delivery fee for my phone

I didn't have to provide credit card details - I don't have one and don't intend getting one.

I gave my debit card details over the phone (I would usually buy online but the offer at the time was telephone exclusive). There is a £1.95 admin charge too.
