What's the theme next week? I heard a couple weeks back it was gonna be Itunes Top 100, but is this still the case?

Yes Mariah Carey is the guest mentor, and I read that they will be singing her songs, which could prove interesting

I fear for my Jason

Hopefully he can pull out his acordian or a didgery doo or a stylophone .. and give us something different

I believe it's her number 1's they can pick from - I had a look at the list and now.....

I fear for my boy David C as well

On paper it looks like it will be a good week for Carly, Syesha and Kristy. David A will probably be OK with another power ballad.

Brooke may struggle, but I agree that David C and Jason probably have the biggest challenge.

Jason's my favourite, with David C a close second, so I hope both of them can pick something they can put their own spin on and pull it off.

We need to have faith
I don't know that it's just #1, and if it's not, the choice is huge.

WHAT THE HELL!!?

how will anyone be able to pull any of mariah's songs?

isn't a bit hypocritical after Simon and Randy, warn contestants to steer clear of the trinity (Whitney, Mariah, Celine)...!!!!!

I think it will be harder for the girls as obviously they can be compared more easily, but everyone can make one of MC's songs their own.

Didn't she have a huge hit with Nilsson's Without You? Go back to the original and it's really quite a dark song. David Cook could do fantastic things with that!

a guitar-ified version of "Always Be My Baby" will be possible to i guess...

Please. Bad enough that Mariah slaughtered that beautiful song. It doesn't need "Cooking".

Brooke – I’ll Be There - I can see her on the piano syruping this one up, it is a tiny, tiny bit more upbeat than she's used to - or at least it will be if she doesn't tone it down!
Carly – Without You - maybe wouldn't be my first choice but is pretty likely and would probably suit her range.
David A – When You Believe - mostly to see how Simon critiques it (being a Brit who watched the XF final!) but he would sing it well. Until this came to mind I was thinking about Always Be My Baby because it's more uptempo for him and I could hear him singing it, but it's not a great song even by Mariah's standards, so surprisingly When You Believe might be the better choice!
David C – Honey - just because! (Me and my friend have an in joke about honey - we're both DC fans so it would be fun to hear him sing it - he can sing anything anyway!) Without the rappung but I guess he could change MC to DC at the beginning
Jason – Hero - Under no other circumstancea woukd I consider this a good song choice for anyone, but it's one of Mariah's few recognisable songs (shame it isn't nearer Christmas) and I think it would suit Jason as much as a Mariah song could!
Kristy – Whenever You Call - Had forgotten about this one! Would suit her, hopefully keep her in and once the Mariah madness is over she'll be able to sing something upbeat again
Syesha – We Belong Together - Something a bit more upbeat and current than usual for Syesga, it won't be as easy for her or Carly as people think though, they're not the most consistent contestants, and at least the others won't face such direct comparisons to Mariah.

^^^^ Dammnation that was the one I was hoping Cookie would get.

There are few acoustic versions of MC songs by this guy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2pLa6H7KYg&feature=user

that would suit DC or may be Jason or Brooke.

The contestant revealed it in an interview with Terri Seymour on US TV and said that Simon had picked the song for them ... he suggested that it would be a great one for them to sing

So he won't be able to say in his critique "bad song choice"

Michael was meant to have been singing a bluesy version of Vision of love...guess we'll never here it now

I wonder if any of the others will get that song now. If they aren't happy with their song choice I think they can have the song from the one who's just been voted off.

I think Katharine McPhee did that Queen week, taking Who Want's To Live Forever from Mandissa who had been voted off the previous week.

She was originally going to sing don't stop me now

if i was picking the songs that week :-

Jason - we belong together
could imagine him doing an acoustic version on the guitar slowed down

or always be my baby
again acoustic version on the guitar

Carly - without you
should be great as she has a good lower register

David C - My all
rock version similar but better than his version of hello

David A - when you believe
suits his voice

Kristy - always be my baby
easily converted to a country song

or butterfly
soft sweet song close to her style

brooke - i'll be there
can imagine her doing this song while playing the piano

Syesha - I still believe (remix version)
starts slowly but goes into a faster tempo which should suit her

or we belong together
completely different to what she has done before and she was great starting off please don't stop the music

As my mum's just pointed out, that Honey song's pretty bad. It wouldn't matter so much if DC wasn't my favourite - and it is Mariah week (we're not really Mariah fans) but I do have a few ideas for changing it up a bit.Maybe DC could save the giggle factor for another week and just make us smile this time round

Another of my mates who is also a Kristy fan suggested she take We Belong Together. I reckon Syesha will be pretty flexible this week, whatevern the results, so maybe she could take Loverboy and leave DC with Whenever You Call - whatever he does he'll be changing it up a bit - lol, I say that a lot now - and it would be beautiful!

Another one which would certainly suit Kristy in terms of her Idol journey would be Through The Rain. She might need to take it down a few octaves but not as many as I would have to! (I think if it was April, I'd be after Whenever You Call, but still in a much lower key!)

I am honestly not looking forward to much of next week, other than hearing how a few of the top 7 will do and listening to Mariah.
I predict next week could be described as the 'Mariah karaoke favorites week ' . Her covers and least challenging ballads and mid-tempo songs will be trotted out, because no one left can handle her bigger or more challenging songs, with the exception of Syesha. She has the range and vocal dexterity to manage one of the 'bigger' range-wise songs if she makes it her own instead of belting.
She, Carly, and David C will probably be the best.
David A will probably Jackson5 his way through 'I'll be there'.
Kristy will most likely be leaving, probably after a nasal and brittle rendition of 'my all', 'hero' or 'always be my baby' .
Jason and/or Brooke both have the potential to come up with a creative and really good take on one of the songs, wich would be great to hear happen.

Looking forward more to Andrew Lloyd Webber week

Just been thinking what they might get

Carly- Don't Cry for me Argentina
David A - Any Dream Will do
Brooke- I don't Know How to Love Him
David C - Oh what a Circus
Syesha - Memory
Jason - Close Every Door
Kristy - Hell no idea
