I have just got an unlocked iPhone. Everything works fine except I cannot send any text messages. It is on T-Mobile UK contract and there doesn't seem to be any way of setting the text message centre number for my network. Has anyone seen this before ?

I used to work for T-Mobile and I'm sure there's a solution for this...can't remember off hand...phone customer services and ask them...probs better to do it from another phone though

I do know with ANY unlocked phone...not just iPhone not every feature is compatible...but like I would phone T-Mobile customer services and see what they can do

My buddy uses his iphone on tmobile, sends texts fine, gets EDGE fine etc. Everything works, so its not a network fault/incompatibility.

Everything works for me except sending texts. I can receive them, I can get on the internet and I can make calls. I saw something that suggested it may be to do with having a very old SIM card (mine is a One2One card) so I am getting a t-mobile PAYG SIM to see if it works with that.

It might also have to do with the message centre number.

Can you receive texts?

On most phones you can edit the message centre number through the settings on the handset, however the iPhone comes with the MCN inbuilt into the device.

I think there is a way of editing it, but it'll probably be quite advanced.

Yes I can receive texts. If someone tells me whereto set the MCN number (if it is in a config file) then I am happy to do that. I have already SSh'ed onto the phone and had a look around, I know unix as well so advanced doesn't scare me

If you can receive its definitely a message centre number thing as it would only affect sending texts.

Sorry I have no idea how to get into the inner workings of an iPhone. Mine is not unlocked.

for anyone who may be suffering from the same problem it was SIM related. Older SIMs don't allow hold the message centre number and won't let you set it through the keypad either. I got a new SIM and it now works perfectly.

Look here for explanation of special kepad codes to interrogate your iPhone:
