Whats all this Nu Metal is dead rubbish?
Just came off a music website where a review of PODs last single ended with something along the lines of wasnt Nu Metal 2 summers ago and ive heard numerous other comments saying it has had its day blah blah.
What a load of crap! How can a style of music have had its day? It will be tweaked here and there and different variations of it will come out with a new name for it, but metal/rap or whatever nu metal is best described as, has a alot to offer and the likes of Linkin Park will be around for ages yet. Long live this type of music whatever it is called in the future.

I'm just getting old I s'pose, but I don't understand the difference between 'Nu-Metal' and Old Metal and Rock? Is there something in particular that defines it as 'Nu' other than the fact it's been released in the past few years, or is it just more rebranding from the music tabloid(s)?

i tend to see more shouting also, e.g growls, screams. thats my take on it anyway. metal is just down right hardcore e.g metallica, megadeath. if u wana say u like both just say like rock it covers all of the metal brands. |

Aside from the influences of putting breakbeats and hip-hop signatures on tracks, the ONLY difference between metal and 'nu-metal' is that the nu-metal bands are marketed to the teen demographic. They're young, good-looking and full of rawk attitude, and that's what sells records.
Of course it helps that the music kicks ass as well, but when even Metallica are pulling nu-metal tweaks into their latest album, you know that it's basically just the evolution of hard rock. |

So given that they originated the scene, they must have been something before the scene was dubbed. They were a metal band. Again, this isn't about supporting your band or genre like a football team. Nu-metal isn't any more necessarily good than boy bands are necessarily bad. For the record, i would put nu-metal at the top of the tree as far as my personal tastes are concerned (or at least alongside fratboy rock like Blink or Bowling For Soup). To be honest, i think Slipknot and Mudvayne take themselves way too seriously and their stage getup is straight up WACK, but i respect what they're doing with their music. So don't take this as a personal attack. It's not. But tell me i'm wrong again without backing it up with reasoned debate (and by 'reasoned debate' i mean something approaching an adult level of literacy), and i'll bitchslap you properly. Beliee'dat. |

Beliee'dat. i diddnt take it as a personal attack, just that most nu-metal bands are not the boy band image/age. true mudvayne and slipknot take it seriously but it was there way to get noticed. and as i said korn have been nu-metal *most* of there time as a band. nu-metal is the sh!t i love it. |
