I need to buy a small TV for the bedroom. At the moment i have my eyes on the small Sony Wega 14inch flat screen television. (it's the smallest one they do) Does anyone have any experiences with it? Are they good. Do you have recommendations of TV's from any other companies of similar size. All help appreciated!!

Thanks

Yeah the Sony Wega 14" is probably the best performer about. They're not cheap, but they work well

Good picture quality and build quality. It's much like a big TV with the quality that is very unusual in the portable market.

The sound is fairly low quality, but then all portables usually are. You get the same remote as with the 28" Wega 16/9 TVs....

It's a bit more bulky compared to non superflat TVs but they work very well and have so far been very reliable. (except a couple of them with poor speakers)

Otherwise a Panasonic is a good bet, but much crappier looking compared to the Sony...

We have had a small Sony flat screen portable for about 11 years. In all that time it just had a minor fault (which at the time was common to Sonys) and we have been very happy with it. I would recommend a Sony set.

Wicket, you can't have had a flat screen for 11 years. You must be thinking about "trinitron" or "super trinitron" screens (which aren't flat but are like a segment taken from a cylinder, i.e. as flat as you can get without being completely flat)

I think i'm going to go with the Sony, i already had a sony but gave it away so will invest in the flat screen version. I'm very impressed with Panasonic TV's (my main widescreen is a panasonic TAU) but their "portables" are pretty ugly. One problem i have is why do all the manufacturers still make the sets in mono, surely they can invest in STEREO (It's not like i'm expecting pro-logic, but stereo would be nice!!)

There's simply no profit in making small TVs' so theres little choice.

Sony and Panasonic make them so you keep for brand loyal customers, but they really don't make much at all on these products.

Fidelity (before Amstrad owned the name) had to close the Fidelity TV factory in the UK because they had to increase the cost of their TVs by £1 (yes £1!) but Dixons and other shops said they wouldnt pay an extra £1 as they could get cheaper TVs from china and such like countries. So Fidelity went out of business all due to a £1 increase in costs.

Thats true!

Nikhil

I stand corrected, yes my set is a trinitron which was considered flat screen at that time. However, it still has been a extremely reliable set.
