Can't wait until next week's show with the Billy Elliot lads, the forum is going to have a meltdown if they do something from the show and sing with a Geordie accent.

That was my question above, Did she decide or was it decided for her that she would try and look like Baby Spice and get a song that didn't match the show - or indeed Baby's dress.

Little Gwion is a cutie . He sang beautifully and he could be my Oliver anyday - the welsh accent is beautiful - and IMHO it's what helps make so many welsh people have lovely singing voices - the lilt of the language adds something to the singing voice.

If I was watching the show on the West End I wouldnt care what accent Oliver had - so long as he could sing and act. Little Gwion was perfect. Hopefully he will be one of the final three boys. ”

nicely put and I agree with you

It's like saying they speak English in Ireland. Yes they do but you couldn't say they sound English.

I'd love Gwion to play the role with a welsh accent.

I had to tape the prog on Sat night 'cause I was working late, I came home and flicked through, saw Amy's terrible performance, which was a shame as she was the only one I actually "cared" about, knew it'd be her. Then had to wait til Sunday night to find out. I wouldn't have minded quite so much if the results show was the same night, but dragging it out over two. They got rid of the best raw talent before the show even started imo. So, I've decided that I'm going to stop watching this lacklustre bunch. Was really disappointed too, to see the girls performing the usual predictable screechy pop songs..I thought this show was going to be different. Having said that....I did think that Aliesha outsang the lot of them last night

Andrew made a big thing about how he did not want an angelic Oliver (a la Mark Lester in the movie) and then he goes and puts the most angelic looking of all the Olivers through first.
The wee lad was great but I wish Andrew would make up his mind what he wants.
He got it right with Amy though, she was clearly the one who performed less well than the other Nancys.

Actually it depends which bit of Ireland you come from to be honest. And which town, and even which part of town. Where I come from (south Dublin) they sometimes call us the Anglo Irish because we are considered - for want of a better word - posh

Most of the English think I'm Home Counties, but I'm born and bred convent schoolgirl Irish. I can do a mean Sloane drawl though, and a really loud Sarf London. It really winds up my mother.

I feel the same. I love a Welsh accent. I think he's so cute, but he has some great competition. Some of those boys are utterly heartbreaking.

The right person went - there was no way that Amy was ever going to stay above Francesca and she knew it!

When she sang the last song - it was heartbraking - made me cry, I was with Jodie - "you go girl"

Andrew is a bit of a bulls - - - - -r

Of course he wants an angelic -ish Oliver. Oliver has to stand out from the other boys and get the audience's sympathy.

Andrews knows exactly what he wants from the beginning. I really like Connie & Lee and have seen them both perform. But I do think he has certain people 'earmarked' from the start.

Although I wouldn't like to predict this year's outcome just yet.

Hmmm, interesting that Francesca was in the bottom two, especially as she is a West End performer and a mate of Denise Van Outen.

She is a good singer and very attractive. I must say, I felt quite sorry for her. She has a lot at stake.

I only just realised I had forgotten to watch the results show. Stupid idea was it to put the results show on the following day.

Thanks to veryone here for posting, so I could catch up.

Goes to show what I know, I had Tara and Ashley as being the worst on Saturday and both survived.

You and me both, although I did include Amy in my bottom three (along with Tara and Ashley, that is) so was confident that Francesca would survive the sing-off.

It was disappointing, if not really surprising, that Amy sang her farewell song so badly - her throat must have been tight with emotion. Having said that, ALL the contestants in ADWD did brilliantly when they had to sing Close Every Door (even the ghastly Seamus), no matter how great their disappointment.

I could really feel the tension among those poor girls. Was it this bad for the Marias? I don't remember it being as tense....

Speaking as someone living in south dublin, a south dublin accent is totally different to an English accent. Granted it's also totally different from a Monaghan accent, a Kerry accent or a finglas accent, but no English person would mistake a south Dublin accent for English. They'd identify it as Irish, just not as strong as they expected.

I think, because it was the first time we were watching them all singing (quite literally) so long, farewell... the tension possibly wasn't as great... by the time we got to the Holy Joes, we had the whole taking of the coat... and now the medallion...

I agree with a lot of others though... Ashley and Tara were the weakest - followed by Amy... I think she blew it in her sing-off and managed the final farewell ok... not outstanding but... y'know... given the circs....

Yeah, my thoughts too. After watching them all perform on Saturday, I mentally rejected these three straight away and figured the competition would only get interesting when they were gone.

That said, Amy's performance wasn't bad at all and she didn't deserve to go on the strength of it. It's just that she is utterly unsuitable for the part. I thought the bottom two should have been Tara and Ashley, with Tara leaving.

Who's voting for Tara?

I think what a lot of people are not aware of is who picks the songs. It is not the girls, they have no input whatsoever. Some of the songs were very suitable for the girls voices as that is the pitch that they are used to singing. Has anyone ever tried to sing 'Suddenly I see'?...it is very very difficult.

I think the reason Tara got the votes is that her fans (she was in a soap opera for 9 months) know that she has got a good voice and hope that she will prove it this week. Then again, you are always told never to pick Whitney or Mariah songs and they have given her a Mariah song.

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll find that us hardened fans are well aware who picks the songs. And I understand from playhousechick (I think) that Tara wasn't happy with her song choice. In some ways, it's a difficult song, but to my mind there were far more challenging pieces performed on Saturday, Respect, for instance, River Deep Mountain High, Hero (though that wasn't done very well). Rachel had a very similar song and pulled it off far better to my mind.

The thing is though, we have been presented with no evidence from the audition stages that Tara has anything special to offer this part and for me, this was just confirmed by her performance on Saturday. It wasn't even the singing that was the problem for me, I actually quite like her lower tones in this song, it was the overly bouncy performance complete with gestures that came straight out of drama school. I thought it was quite a shallow interpretation of a song that she could have done a lot with if she'd wanted to.

I'm sensing she's a friend of yours and sorry for being harsh, but she just didn't cut it for me. That said, I'm conscious that we haven't seen very much at all and I'm open to having my mind changed. During ADWD I didn't care for Ben at all until the middle of the series and he became one of my favourites.

Oh, the soap angle, I'd forgotten about that, well I understand how that might stand to her. Does she sing on this soap, as a matter of interest? Oooh, is this a spoiler for next week? Cool. Yes, Mariah songs are tricky, but if she pulls it off she will gain a lot of respect.

Very good reply. She isn't a friend of mine but she does seem to be taking a lot of flak (far more so than others that were also poor) for a song that obviously didn't suit her voice. I just felt as though someone should try to defend her as her performance was not great but then nor were 3 or 4 others imo.

I haven't seen the soap opera that she was in so I don't know if she sings in it but I always thought it would be good for votes for her. I shouldn't have mentioned the Mariah comment.

btw, on the night, I thought it was any 2 from 4/5.

*waves*

As you know he was always a favourite of mine but you make a very good point about judging and it is so obvious how they allocate songs on who they want to stay or go aka Daniel. He had some stinkers

I am going to be watching avidly to see if I can guess who their chosen one is this series ( I know I said I wouldn't get hooked again!!)

Well I haven't got a stand out favourite at the moment - but I did quite like Amy. I thought Francesca sang better in the sing off but it still wasn't an outstanding performance.

What did you think of the Group performance? I thought it was awful and I'm sorry Jodie but you looked like someone had bought their mum along.
