Hey twingle

Yep, it was the week Ben did 'Help Yourself' and I was totally smitten. And he was actually better in the group performances than the solos, I am actually embarassed about how many times I've watched 'Do you love me' on youtube

The Daniel situation was ridiculous, they kept telling him he needed to show more edge, not be so nice, and then gave him the blandest songs in living memory. Andrew wanted rid of him. He's a fool if you ask me. But his loss is Avenue Q's gain

Likewise, giving someone a great song can turn it around. I love Craig (how could you not love Craig?) But giving him 'This is the moment' was clearly designed to keep him in the competition. It saved his ass at a crucial point. He probably shouldn't have finished as high as he did.

Ah - a kindred spirit!!

Very true about Craig - a lovely guy, but a much weaker singer than Daniel.

Who's voting for Tara? ”

Tara was probably most unlike her audition video though so who knows what either that or the saturday performance really told us. The audition was much nearer to Nancy. I still want to know who decided to dress her as Baby Spice so she looked least like Nancy as well as having a song that went in the same wrong direction. We were told on the show the girls chose but two posters have suggested Tara didn't (understandably) like her song which suggests that even for the first show someone else is deciding and dropping some girls straight into the proverbial.

Actually Amy looks acts and sounds like a damaged version of Nancy on her audition and lost all her useful points in an equally bad choice of performance, stylist and dress.

I am wondering if the Sunday show may be increasing the problems by adding too much and driving the average quality down. The girls seem now to be singing too many songs - their song, groups songs, second show songs, eviction song and elimination song at least ( and I may have missed a group song) was it that bad for teh Marias?

Even if they were all pros I just don't think you can learn and develop and practice and stage all that lot to a high standard. Most musicals don't have that many songs to sing in them for any character and most singing shows (FA or X Factor only require people to learn one a week- with the FA students struggling with 3-4 in later weeks with less complicated dancing too) Even if a pro can learn the songs , not everyone is a pro and a song that develops over several days with a vocal coach before it reaches its optimal form is going to be a lot better than something put together quickly before you move on to the next one..

I disagree most leads in musicals are on stage singing practically for the whole 2 hour show. And that is 8 times a week. I don't think they are singing any more than previous shows. Don't forget they now have the Olivers doing a turn or two as well

You wouldn't learn the musical in a week though . If you learn a third of a musical with lots of solos/duets/groups and ensembe singing like SOM in a week or as much as anyone gets to sing in many other musicals its bound to be underdeveloped, not thought through, under-rehearsed and unpolished. Here the girls seem to be doing as many songs in a week as Nancy sings/reprises in the whole show.

Should be good! Difference between Oliver and Billy Elliot though is "Billy" carries that show whereas in Oliver! "Oliver" is only a supporting character, think it was on a Billy Elliot documentary I heard that.

Plus the Sunday show is filmed on the Saturday anyway, so its not an extra day of filming its all done together.

Yeah Billy Elliot the character is on stage for nearly the whole 2 and a half, and the whole show revolves around him. Although Oliver is the namesake of the show, every scene does not revolve around him plus he doesn't have to be a triple threat, all the billys can sing, act(comedic and dramatic acting) and are outstanding dancers. So they have a big ask.
