New N95 question
Dear all,
Got a new N95 on 3 yesterday, and while I haven't discovered everything on it yet, there's something doesn't seem to be working. Now it may be me not doing something right, but thought I would ask on here before I have to ring 3 later... Some websites are displaying as "you are outside the video service area" when I am not trying to access a video service. One of them is to download the software for Messenger, and one or two of the other 3-recommended features. I have tried connecting through 3 and through a WLAN. Is something wrong, or am I not doing something right? Cheers, Adrian |

you will not be able to access the 3 mobile site through WLAN, only via 3G.

The phone is using 3G as the default connection, but if you are outside the 3G area, that is what will come up.
Go into a city centre where there is 3G coverage and try again, and it should connect. |

As pointed out, your not in a 3G area or there is no 3G signal where you are so your actually roaming on Orange rather than using three's own network.
Look at your signal strength, underneath do you see 3G or an arial? I bet it's an arial. If your roaming on orange then you will have no access to the inernet but will be able to access parts of planet 3! |

I have a similar problem with my new N95. Whenever I connect to my WLAN at home on WiFi wehenever I enter a web address all it does is connect me to the 3 website (not planet 3, their actual website). No matter what address I type in it takes me their, however once I'm there if I try another address it sometimes takes me to that website or simply reloads the 3 website.

No, it's definitely showing 3G, full strength signal. It does connect OK to ebay and most of the other links, in fact I see that it then says 3.5G.
Any more info? Thanks so far! Adrian |

The confusion arises because the network call the 3G signal the "video service". A hangover from when networks thought people would actually bother to make video calls...
Of course historically, only one mobile video call was ever made and that was back in 2004 when Darren Sanders and his girlfriend Rachel got a Three handset each and thought they'd try it. |

If your handset is showing as being in a 3G or 3.5G signal area then you should be fine!
Try reseting the phone: *#7370# Warning though you will lose all data unless backed up. |

While 3 were certainly late in allowing people to access the proper internet, since the launch of browsing and the 'add internet' bundles, you've been able to browse the www on either 2G or 3G (even when o2 was the roaming partner). It is true that certain areas of Planet 3 were locked out whilst on 2G. But back to the original question, I think they're correct in stating that 3 don't allow you to have free reign of 3 services over WLAN. |
