Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-E55
I've had this DVD Recorder which has worked fine for 3 years until recently when I connected it to a new Panasonic TV model TX-32LXD70.
Now whenever I switch on the DVD Recorder and insert a previously recorded disk (always Panasonic brand) it goes into a lengthy series of repeated SELF CHECK / Off routines which can go on for 10 to 15 minutes before any viewing or recording can take place. Any ideas? Thanks |

I don't know why it's going into a fancy disc checking routine. But I know that it has got absolutely nothing to do with your new television. A DVD player or recorder has no knowledge of what kind of display it is connected to - the most it is aware of is "Is it a widescreen or 4:3 display" and "Is it capable of Progressive Scan or not?".
And the machine will go through the same rigmarole even if you disconnect your DVDR from your telly while you load a disc - and only reconnect it to the TV after it has finished disc checking and is actually playing the disc. |

The most common fault on Panasonic models that gives these symptoms is a failed voltage regulator in the power supply. |

Its got nothing to do with your new tv
![]() I've got also got a Panasonic and have had similiar problems. What i tend to find is, is that for some reason Panasonic DVD recorders have problems reading pre-recorded discs be it on a -r or on a ram disc and gets stuck in this self check loop, which is really annoying! But the weird thing is that i can play the pre-recorded discs ok on a Panasonic DVD player! This leads to me to think that its the DVD recorder itself which is unable to recognise certain disc formats. One thing i would try ( if you you havent done so all ready) is if the recorder is region 2, try and find the code to make it multi-region and see if that helps - just a thought Hope this helps Good luck PS I would do the above myself but i've find it easier to use the other Panasonic dvd player (non-recorder) i've got. |

John Currie is right.
Your recorder is exhibiting classic symptoms of a failed Voltage Regulator, something which has cropped up several times on here and other forums, and on several models in the E55 family. There is an excellent guide here on how to perform a DIY fix. I fixed mine in about 60 mins using this guide and I'd never even wielded a soldering iron before! |
