26" LCD PANASONIC and V+ Box

A couple of questions for the "clued-up" members from a rabbit.

1 When using display setting 720P on the V+ box the screen is filled but in filling the screen does the resolution suffer?

2 The standard channels from the V+ box display really good picture quality; so much so that there appears to be no difference when displaying channel 108 - BBC-HD.
Can this be because the display is only 26" and Hi-def is for larger displays? If this is the case is there any value in buying Blu-Ray for this size of display?
