Hello.

I thought it was about time we gave credit to an unsung member of the Hollyoaks cast and characters.

The welsh wonder that is Elliot Bevan portrayed by Garnon Davies.

Quite simply he is a walking cliche. A nerd in nerds clothing. But last nights episode of E4 gave us hope for so much more.

In an episode swamped with the story of John Paul and Kieron, Garnon Davies stood tall as a man on the edge. His portrayal of Elliot shattered the accepted notion that Elliot was nothing more than a fringe character. For this viewer the foundations of this character appeared for the first time. We can now see the hidden depths to the character, the pain, the anguish and the motivation for his nerdom.

In short last nights E4 made me consider that Nerds are people too. The comedic value ascribed to the character, the dismissive and affectionately patronising tone used by other characters towards Elliot undervalue the swirling anguish and hidden emotions buried beneath that wooly cap.

In short Elliot Bevan (Garnon Davies) I salute you.

I agree with everything you've put. I've always liked Elliot and after last nights E4 episode I like him even more.

I also like Lauren even less than I did before which I didn't think was possible.

Gav - I couldn't agree more - last night Garnon was immense. Thought he shone in what was in my opinion one of the best epi's of HO I've seen in a long time - if ever.

Always loved him but he's just going from strength to strength - can't wait for what's coming up for him - and on a completely base level - underneath that hat and glasses is a major hunk !!

I agree it really made me dislike her with a passion.

I couldn't believe her justifications for doing what she did "The way he spoke to us"...

What !?!?

You spoke to him like dirt you stupid girl !!

I felt sooo sorry for Elliot when he saw Sarah in bed with someone else and then he was callin for his dad in the woods at the end of the episode. Why would Lauren do that to anyone?!?

I love Elliot, he's a good character and Garnon portrays him brilliantly.

As much as I like the JP/Kieron storyline, I thought he stole the show last night.

His mum is back next week - I've just realised she's played by the woman who plays Stacey's Mum, Gwen, in Gavin and Stacey

I want to see this character transformation thats coming up next week

Gav, abso-frakking-lutely...I agree with everything you've said. Watching him this morning totally killed me. I'm going to kill Sarah! Roger! And Lauren!

Leave my nerd-looking-to-turn-into-a-not-so-nerd alone!!!

I love that we are getting to see him as more than just comic relief for having a crazy mum or having to put up with Steph's (as much as I love her) antics. It's really about what's hiding underneath all that clothing. Oh, watching him without the hat and the glasses last night...the transformation begins.

I agree entirely with that first bit in bold !!

As for the second. Is that definite ? Are there spoilers ??

It'd be great if they continue to flesh him out. His whole reason for why he is the way he is was so clear last night. I felt so sad for him. Wanting desperately to connect to a father he never knew. The child in him never giving up hope.

It was heart rendering watching his pain as his world crumbled around him.

It really made me angry at Sarah for being such a brainless tramp. At least she showed concern for his feelings after. But hindsight is a wonderful thing. She has a lot of making up to do.

As for Lauren. Well I'm hoping she may fall foul of a toxic chemical contamination in black lipstick that only affects the HO village.... C'mon Niall !! Kill someone who deserves to croak !!

There's pictures on the HO website as well.

The first part is good, but the last part sounds like it might be sad.

OMG !!

Poor Elliot. He is searching for his identity and place in this world.

IMHO his dad's disappearance formed his obsession with UFO's and the like. All because he used it as an explaination to himself as to why his Dad left.

Spoiler

Glad he stood up to Lauren
But sadly he paid for it with the events as they unfolded in last night's E4 episode. Lauren is the worst kind of bully and wasn't going to take being humiliated lightly.

I have not yet seen this episode, but I love Elliott to bits. I'm so glad he is getting the chance to shine. I've been expecting a makeover for Elliott for some time now.

Why should Elliot have to give himself a makeover just to "fit in" with others? He should just say "this is who I am so take me or leave me".

I totally agree.

But without his beliefs which seem to be founded on the desire that his father was kidnapped by extraterrestrials he is going to go on a journey to find 'himself'.

I guess its only natural he will seek to define himself by context to his surroundings. Just hope he dosen't use Kris's dress sense as an example !!

I hope he does find himself, but I also hope he retains a little bit of geekiness, too

I quite agree. It was obvious that it was likely to happen at some point, though. Maybe in the end he will say that.

I seem to remember the same thing happened in Heartbreak High with Charlie - he gave himself a makeover just to impress Katerina. Girls are so superficial.

I agree Elliot is a great character and he isn't given much credit for it...

I hope this leads to him finding his dad so it backfires on Lauren..

Elliot is such a lovely guy. I hope John Paul can let him know he has a friend in him too and is on his side.

Newt as well as Lauren are two evil bastards. They tried to make life hell for Russ too, blackmailing him. I hope he punished them badly that they won't do it again.

In class, they said about him attacking Pete Webster (the careers adviser), but he didn't say Pete was sexually harrassing Tina, for the McQueens' sake and his own, not being cool, but sad, (I hate teenagers that behave like that to slightly older people) getting angry and defensive meaning he was hiding secrets (or something like that), drawing weird pictures of people they don't like, like Russ and Summer.

Certain baddish stuff on TV makes me not wanna watch it, especially if it is to characters you like in Hollyoaks. However, you won't see if they fought back and got justice. I haven't been watching for a while, but hopefully will again to see Elliot, JP and Kieron and a handful of others.

Bryan Kirkwood thinks that Newt will be a great character who will get better and better over the years? I don't think so, mate.
