I'm guessing its the hub bub over not crediting the original versions of the songs he's singing...which I don't agree with...I mean Ryan even said it was a CC version last week.

Just read that David C was released from the hospital...went after the show due to high blood pressure and palpitations...


Sorry...still not buying all the manipulation ideas. Other contestants would be crying foul over that kind of stuff...

The 'Daughtry Treatment'...basicly, being given an exceptionally good mix and sometimes louder volume to make it seem more rocked out, also, more of a light show than the others got that season.
Daveraleigh, without saying too much, suffice to say I am not making guesses and these are not 'ideas'. I know how these shows work . Not 'guess' how....know how.
But it is just a show, so unless you are actually directly affected by it, it isn't a big deal. Believe me or don't, and either way, have fun watching. I certainly do.

Oh...by all means...say as much as you want because its not looking like fact as much as it is cynical over analyzation...
It can't be that singers like Syesha just don't connect enough with the audience or have that "been there, heard that" factor from previous seasons..noooo..its the producers keeping her down! Just a bit much...but we can agree..its no big deal.

Since I followed the X factor closely this season I am convinced that there is a lot of manipulations going on, with the song choice, the musical arrangement, the outfits.
The best example for me was Niki who was at first given the perfect arrangement and the perfect songs but later on sabotaged with songs too big for her and a loud backing track that was making her shout.
I don't see it so much with AI, may be it is more subtle.

Daveraleigh, you misunderstood what I meant by not wanting to say too much.
I am cynical about how these shows operate, but still can appreciate the talent of the contestants. I know about the sound/mix/edit. Some of what I say is guessing, but let's just say I have a great deal more information to work with than the casual observer and the guesses I make are educated ones.
I am not on here anonymously. A simple right click of my nick and you may understand where I'm coming from a little better.
Not everyone wants what Idol offers. Some have actually turned that down. It is not the be all and end all, and sometimes people regret choosing that route. For others, it is a great way to get themselves out there. And for some, winning Idol would be a loss compared to getting exposure in the top ten then being free to do their thing eventually. That is quite a risk to take.
I respect every one of the contestants. People say these shows are the easy way. Not the case. For some, it may be a last attempt before giving up. For most, it is a way to gain exposure on a massive level after years of music school and/or gigging and working in the industry and making contacts.For some others like Carly, it can be a second chance. And for some, it just isn't the right way to get where they want to be.
I hope you don't think I was trying to say certain contestants are talentless just because they are the ones getting the most breaks. For instance, this week, David C and Carly were the best in my opinion, regardless. Just because theyre chosen ones doesn't take away from their talent. However, some of the contestants truly do not get the same 'help' as others do. Not a guess, it's how it's done. I think Syesha is wonderful,and so are some of the others. As far as that goes, if you think she's boring or same-old, that is your opinion and that's cool, we don't all prefer the same singers.
Anyway, take this for whatever it is worth to ya, I am just here because I enjoy the show and find it interesting to watch the hype-machine in motion. And I hope Idol helps all of the singers who are on it to achieve their goals, regardless of my opinion of their respective talents. Some people might not like what I sing either, and that's okay

Its that time again. On the whole there were some great performances and others so, so. This is helped by giving certain people the right song and musicians to back it up.

I really like Dolly. Her coaching was great and encouraging for the contestants.


David A. - Smoky Mountain Memories: Yes he sang well. But for me its just too cheesy. They seem to give him the right songs to sing so he is bound to sing well. I am yet to be convinced. But there is a big market for him out there.


Syesha - I Will Always Love You:She is my favourite. But am frustrated by how she is presented and I could say that she is made to perform something that she will be slated for. Its not her. It obvious she has not got a choice. I for one will be pleased if she is voted off tonight so that she can get on with her diverse career. At least am sure African American and R n B voters will be relieved. Image and marketing consultants should give her a make over. But this show for me tends to suck the creativity out of some of the contestants they do not want to go far. She is one of them

Carly - Here You Come Again: At last I can say this is what I have been looking for. It was a beautiful performance. It was a joy to listen to her.This is one way to sell her.:

Kristy Lee Cook - Coat of Many Colors: It suited her. Performance was fine but the singing well in places not so good. I predict she will stay in. Its country week. :yawn:

Ramiele - Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?: As I watched her. Again I cannot see where she will fit in. Her singing was out of tune in places and pitchy in others. I really cannot remember the tune of the sung. She looked like a beautiful doll. Maybe there is a market for that.:sleep:

Michael - It's All Wrong, But It's All Right : He was my second favourite. And the best on the night. My God he blow me away. I wanted an encore if it was possible. It was that glorious and just beautiful for me. He has found his ground and another niche where he can excel.

Jason Castro - Travelin Thru: I do not know what happened to my Jason. But it did not work for me. Maybe its the song I did not like I do not know. He may come to the end of the road soon. But its not a bad thing. He needs some guidance after the show. Sometimes the best of people are not seen on these types of shows. Similar to Syesha in some ways.

Brooke White - Jolene: It was just ok. Nothing special. Of course she will stay in. This is what is in.

David Cook - Little Sparrow:I cannot say whether I liked or disliked it. It was too monotonous for me. :sleep:

Going home? Syesha (mainly because I want her to), Jason, or Ramiele. Again I could be wrong.

Babeth

Brooke - I enjoyed it but it didn't blow me away. She's still my favourite and I still love her voice and her whole vibe but wasn't her best week.

David C - I really liked this. In fact, controversially I liked it more than the last couple of weeks. I love the rich tone and range in his voice and it's much clearer with a more acoustic arrangement. (ETA: gets extra kudos for doing that whilst obviously feeling like poo, given what happened afterwards!)

Ramiele - Dreadful yet again. Moreover, she's starting to really get on my nerves now to the point that I'm starting to dislike her. The little girl act has worn completely thin and she just doesn't have the voice or the charisma to justify being in the competition any longer. I'd say it's like Jasmine Trias all over again, except I found Jasmine far more likeable.

Jason - hmmm. I really liked him to start with, but he's starting to slip a bit in my ratings now. It's all starting to sound a bit same-y. I think he's someone suited to more intimate venues and that both his voice and performance just get lost on the Idol stage.

David A. - I thought he did a really good job this week, and when I listened to it without watching him I really liked it. Unfortunately there was something a bit too polished and staged about the whole performance for me that put me off when I watching him. He just exudes a vibe of being groomed from birth which I find a bit off-putting!

Carly - Absolutely loved it.

Syesha - She has a nice voice and it was a nice performance, however I still just don't get it. Someone said somewhere that David C is good but no better than many other soft rockers jobbing in the clubs. I'd say something similar about Syesha. She's good but no better than many other jobbing backing singers that are out there. She just doesn't stand out for me in any way.

Kristy Lee Cook - Pleasant enough and surprised to say I don't think she should go tomorrow, but I still find her so bland.

Michael - Finally!! I thought he was excellent tonight. For the first time this competition I could see his appeal as a solo singer. Needed a big performance and boy did he give one.



Top of the night for me were David C, Carly & Michael Johns.

Worst was Ramiele by a mile, but I have an odd feeling she'll escape and the bottom 3 may be Jason, Syesha and Kristy. No idea who'll go home but I sooooo hope America proves me wrong and finally ditches Ramiele.

For me the 2 David's were the standouts.
Carly was not too far behind - at last a song that suits her, and I thought she looked great.
I put Kristy in 4th place, thought she sang it well, way better than previous weeks.
Can't seperate the others - thought they were all poor. Brooke's song was ruined by her dreadful guitar playing which jarred with the session musicians backing her.

There does seem to be a welcome drift toward multi-national exposure as the goal, rather than winning as the be all end all achievement. Indeed, some winners of AI have not really done that well, considering AI is among the most popular shows in the world today.

These days, the act who comes second, or even makes it to the top five, has enough momentum to get international lift-off. Then we see how much is talent and how much is hype/ manipulation. For sure, someone as powerful as Cowell can spark massive sales, but that is always a very short-lived thing. Only a real talent can continue to make progress.

I'm glad Carly & Syesha are safe,i don't think Brooke is as good as she thinks she is,maybe she'll up her game afer this.

A bit shocked by Brooke...but there always seems to be at least one surprise (to me) in the bottom 3.

It was nice to have a quick catch up with Bucky, Phil and Bo Bice, too.

Didn't hear mention of the theme and I can't remember exactly how the AI Gives Back mega show was handled last year. Can't wait, though! Love me some Annie Lennox!

Being in the bottom three at this stage may not be a bad thing, it may encourage people to vote more strongly.
I am happy with the eviction result, and hopefully it will be Kristy's turn next week.

But bummed about Brooke being bottom 3 but she wasn't her best last night. Glad she stayed though.

I felt kind of sorry for Ramiele but it was gonn happen soon anyway.

Ramieles departure was overdue. She has a nice voice when she can control it but all her performances were deeply amateurish. She should have waited a couple of years, got some experience and then done Idol. The show was too big for her
