Does anyone have a reliable PVR?

How many people have had a trouble free experience with the tiscali+ PVR so far?

How good is it at recording series? One-offs? Pausing live TV etc? Can you really record/watch more than one channel at a time without the picture breaking up etc? And get a decent speed on the internet at the same time?

Is the fan noise still a problem? Is it noisier than say a laptop???

Thanks!

I've had mine nearly two months now and so far it's been totally reliable - no failed recordings and pausing works fine. The box has two Freeview tuners and can also receive one ADSL stream, so whether you can record or watch more than one channel at once depends on how you receive the channel.

The box is still noisy. My iBook is usually almost totally silent so definitely noisier than that! However the box is now quieter when its not being used.

I was part of the trial so have had mine since November, i haven't had any problems with it. It works really well, i have recorded lots of series and watch and record all the time without any issues. It definately quieter than it used to be.

Thanks both of you. So is that it then?? Just two people happy with the PVR?
(Go on, someone try and convince me its worth the extra £50 and another 12 month contract)

Mine works fine too - zero problems encountered. It is a bit noisy however!

3 people have very helpfully replied to your post & not had any problems
( other than a noise issue - which most PVR's have as you are putting a machine with a fan in in your front room after all )

My maths isn't up to much, but I make that roughly 100% so far.

If you want a PVR, & don't mind a year contract, £50 would then appear cheap.

Very happy with it in terms of PVR, the only thing I dislike is that sometimes there doesn't seem to be quite enough bandwidth to watch sky sports.

Hi Jiverman

I'm interested in getting the PVR. Can you tell me how it affects sky sports?

Thanks

Also does it have a built in router and wifi? - Can't find any specs on Tiscali website.

Not built in... it comes with a Speedtouch wireless router which you must use (the modem is in the router rather than in the STB).

I must admit I am very tempted to go for the Tiscali triple pack of phone/BB/TV but have read so many horror stories in here I am wondering if it really is worth going for it.

Is it possible to use my own wireless router with the TV service or does it have to be Tiscali's?

Are Tiscali really that bad?
