Agreed. Jenny should have gone. Now she thinks she's got away with it. Lucinda was pretty bad too and I wouldn't have complained if she had gone either, however I do genuinely think her tears were only because she was humiliated that someone else (Shazir I thnk, wasn't it? In the cab?) stood up to Jenny for her and that made her ashamed that she hadn't stood up to herself better.
It isn't productive to say so, but Jenny is a skanking hatchet-faced bag. I would love to see her talk to someone like me in that way! No boss of mine has dared speak to me that way for years, I just will not put up with it - but then I do have knack of making sure I'm too useful to lose without being more trouble than it's worth... except when I got made redundant 4 years ago and on that occasion I had been angling for it for a couple of years because I was bored with the job and wanted the lump sum...
I really feel sorry for Shazir. That was a real bum rap. I can't help thinking that Sir A only fired her because he didn't want to reward either Jenny or Lucinda by firing the other. Shazir was the "extra", like the poor chap on Star Trek that gets sent on the "Away" missions just because they need someone expendable to get killed by the alien.
Exactly like Sir A said, her most heinous crime was a bit of a laudry mix up. The others were guilty of much worse:
Jenny of being an unpleasant harridan who likes to have a scapegoat. Always a bad sign.
Lucinda of using emotional blackmail, and even if that was unintentional she did miss the morning meeting which was unforgivable under the circumstances and she should have had a much better excuse than she did have in order for it not to look like a childish retaliation. It looked as though she herself had sunk to an unprofessional level and she did nothing to rectify that.
It doesn't matter how much my boss upsets me, I never come in late in retaliation, nor do I have time "off sick" because of it. I keep smiling. This wins the respect of my colleagues and usually encourages the boss to develop a better attitude. I'm not even a high-powered person, so if I can do that then Lucinda jolly well ought to have been able to!
I really do believe that if Lucinda had got up in time for the meeting and carried on as if nothing had happened (even keeping quiet if she couldn't find anything constructive to say) then Sir A would not have minded firing Jenny. As it was, he didn't want to fire either because he knew it would seem to the other as if they had won and clearly he didn't want either to win.
Poor Shazir was the sacrificial lamb, no doubt about it. She did not deserve it. I'm very glad to see the audience on "You're Fired" agreed as well.
