If I see a smudge on my LCD telly & try to wipe it with a dry cloth like you would an old style telly it just makes the smudge bigger. Any tricks of the trade out there?

No trick of the trade, just a clean damp cloth followed by a dry one.

I use "Dust Off" monitor wipes on my PC monitors and laptop, they always remove any gunk.

Just a damp Micro-fibre cloth (Tesco from 89p for three upwards).....Nothing else required, No further expense......
I've been using this for three years now and the screen is as good as new....

my wife used polish on mine and it has left a tint in the centre of the screen. it shows up red/pink when its showing a green background like football.

Can the screen be re-coated?

On an LCD the actual part you see is the front on the LCD panel, if it's a Sharp one though you can actually get separate parts for the LCD.

I've just been trying to clean an LCD TV returned from the Police - you can't shift fingerprint powder off the front of the LCD, and even the silver surround doesn't clean very well.

the best thing that I know about for cleaning most plastics and paintwork including LCD Screens is Clear Windowlene.
Not the pink stuff though or the creamy version, this is the spray version and is clear in the bottle.

DO NOT SPRAY ONTO THE OBJECT
spray onto kitchen paper and then use this to wipe the area
if seriously dirty try a couple of goes then clean with a piece of dry kitchen paper.

This is what a very experienced Prop man told me to use, he has to clean and maintain things like this day in and day out to a high spec.

For fingerprint powder use a wide sellotape to lift the majority off then use lighter fluid on kitchen paper to lift the next amount finally finishing with clear windowlene sprayed on kitchen paper then clean with dry kitchen paper.

Me too. Hot water on a micro - fibre cloth. Wring it out until almost dry and wipe over the screen. It works a treat. BTW I use the same thing to wipe over all my wooden furniture - keeps the dust down and save a lot of time polishing.

Please, Please, don't use anything but a damp microfibre cloth....Anything else is a waste of money and no more effective.
