Sony RDR HX750 or LG RH266 DVD recorder?
Bought a Philips 3595 two weeks ago and it's already causing me problems, so I'm bringing it back. Now, I live in ireland and bought this at a place (Power City) which I believe will only allow me exchange or give me store credit.
So basically within their range I'm looking at the above two machines as possible replacements. The Sony is a little more expensive than I paid for the Philips, while the LG is a lot less, so you would think the question moot. But sometimes price isn't everything. So does anyone have any advice on which I should go for? Thx TH |

OK, one other has entered the arena. I'm being told the Philips 3575 is the exception to the rule, and perhaps I should look at that?

![]() Personally, I don't lke the idea that the Philips machines wont do DVD-RAM, as I have a lot of stuff recorded on these discs, so I am leaning towards the Sony.... but then, I'm reading not so great things about it, either! If I could get my money back I'd go for a Pioneer, but I think that might be marginally easier than getting George Bush to produce a sentence without the words "make no mistake" or "folks" in it! |

sony http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProdu...y=DVD+Recorder [quote] That's the 870, which they don't have at this shop. Also, the problem there is that that's a SONY webpage, and they're hardly going to do an unbiased review. Does anyone know of somewhere I can read reviews that aren't slanted towards or against any manufacturer? |

Are you/were you a Philips user?
But I have seen and repaired LOT'S of faulty Philips products over the years, and Philips are well known for their poor reliabilty and even worse service. |

From what I hear, I would agree with you on that. However I have owned (and still do) two excellent standalone CD recorders and never had a problem with either.
People who hate Philips and know how poor their products are though tell me the 3575 breaks the mould, that it's one DVD recorder where they got it right, before they went back to making rubbish. Any ideas? |

I have had an LG 266.
It has performed for nearly a year without a complaint (touch wood) but is a bit quirky to use. The book is rubbish. Never explained you had to go "TV-DVD" to format a disc.. I found out by accident. You can't divide a title and the fast forward is fiddly when you are editing. I have been unhappy with Sony and Panasonic (3 failed machines!!!!!) in the past. |
