Diederick Santer - best executive in soap?
I'm trying to work out the best executive's in all soap and think Diederick would have to be in the top ten. Not only does Diederick care dearly about the show's history and its long term fans, he is also great at getting the show's future cast eg: the kids and teens, all ready to take over the helm in a few years time.
I think he is one of the all time best. And he is probably going to bring Janine back shortly too!

Julia Smith & Tony Holland will always rule for me, followed by John Yorke & the way it's doing, Diedrick will be my next favourite - he has certainly turned the show around & brought it back to un-missable viewing. He's not scared to talk about history within the programme & has a current mix of excellent cast - even axing those who should have gone years ago
As for Louise Berridge....well..... |

He's strenghthened the entire younger cast as an investment for the future which is great.
Corrie may have to do that soon I feel as the long term characters that are iconic to the show start to fizzle out. They've only really worked on David and Tina all the others are pretty poor. Of course Julia and Tony will reign over EE forever because its their show. He's actually quite sexy too...

I do think he's done an absolutely superb job in his time at EastEnders. I've been watching it all my life (I can remember it clearly from around 1994 onwards) & I can't remember a time I've enjoyed it as much as I do now.

Lets not forget he's been responsible for the introduction of the following:
Clare Bates, Christian Clarke, Heather Trott, Hazel Hobbs, Vinnie monks and Jack Branning which are all pretty duff characters IMO. |

He has done a tremendous job although the characters Harwood introduced were far more original and much less generic than the ones Diederick has bought in.

Anyway, in terms of Santer, I don't think is the best EE exec ever but I do think he is one of the best. John York will always be my personal favourate. I do think Santer is most definatly on the right lines when it comes to the shows history, character development/relationships and gritty plotlines. He doesn't patronise viewers by sugarcoating storylines. I do think he has been a breath of fresh air to the soap though. After all the inconsistancies from LB, LH and KH, it's great to see a EE exec remind us why the viewers became gripped with the show in the first place. In terms of characters, its been a mixed bag for me. Roxie, Ronnie, Christian, Shirley and The Masoods have been great additions. However the likes of Jack, Claire, Hazel and Heather have left me feeling flat. I am impressed however with the overall cast (whether they were bought in under Santers rein or not). |

For some EE fans I guess. I'm an EE fan and he's just yet another TV Executive
People might feel this way about Santer (compared to some **cough Berridge cough** earlier EE producers....) |

I would say he is very good and clearly knows what he wants from the soap and how it needs to improve.
Bryan Kirkwood's presence on Hollyoaks is also amazing considering how he has turned the show around and making it alot better in terms of characters and storylines.

That may be true SULLA.....but looking at it another way, would you say the current Baggies boss (Tony ** [something]) is "just another West Brom manager" or is he a little bit better than the norm? How would you call it?

He's the best Exec out of all the soaps at the moment. Easties is on fire right now and has been since he took over. The less said about Mr F. the better. It would be all too easy to have a dig at his misfortune in this thread.
![]() The best ever...I'm not sure. No I don't think he is but he's certainly up there as one of the best. |
