"With that said............." How much is scripted ?
Im loving the show mostly, but god, it grates on me that they seem to say "with that said........." about 10 times an episode. It sounds SO rehearsed when they are saying who they have put up for eviction. Also, how much of the show is actually scripted. I hate the way they are obviously told to burst though the door and shout "who wants to see my HOH room then ??". But this is America I guess.

Personally I don't mind, because it means everything gets done clearly and without people running about and screaming in the middle or a task or not having a clue what is going on, like what usually happens in UK BB. |

I prefer my reality TV to be "reality" and unscripted.

Lol, the one I noticed was in BB6, where they always all 'happened' to be sitting outdoors on the patio together before any competition or event happened, even though they hated each other!

I thought that a large part of the show was that they dont see any other people except the same housemates faces for 3 months or whatever. If they are seeing different production staff every day telling them what to say and do, it realy looses some of its fun.

Slightly off topic, but do you reckon they actually have a cleaner in at least for the living area? The place always looks so tidy, by now the UK house would be wrecked.

Just to answer some questions.
The HG's have to clean the house themselves but the living room hardly ever gets used so there's nothing to clean. When you see the HG's sitting outside before a POV or Nomination ceremony it's done on purpose because they lock them down outside while the HOH or POV winner does their diary room and the whole looking over the memory wall bit. I'm not really sure if they actually see people when being instructed on comps. I think they are just being told what to do over the loudspeakers. I do know they see the camera men up on the crawl on the roof because they've spoken about it before. Hope that helps a little!

that's really interesting - thank you
It is a fascinating show - I can imagine they are outside more than the UK contestants as the weather is probably much nicer there!

Not sure if this is fact ,
but on Wednesday (eviction live show day ) they always have to congregate in the HOH for a couple of hours . I always suspected this was for downstairs cleaning in preparation for the live show. I'm sure ive heard the house guests comment on it too. The HOH and Veto holder always get called into the diary room just before nomination and veto ceremonies take place . I always thought the "coaching " took place at that time. |

That's where you make the mistake. BBUSA is not classed as Reality TV, it's a gameshow.

Actually isn't it classed as a soap opera for legal reasons?
One thing that bothers me about BBUSA is because of the lack of voice-over, they always have to get the housemates to say something that's clearly scripted. It usually only happens when they're describing tasks to the others but you can tell that it's not part of their natural dialogue as the sound changes. Also when the housemates vote to evict and they all manage to rush in after one another in perfect timing, does a member of the production team go into the living room to tell them exactly when to enter the room? I suppose there would be no other way at that speed! |

I dont know, seems to me that each season gets more and more scripted.
I know theyve always had it but just lately its looking more obvious than ever. |

The problem is if so much of it is scripted, then what if the first "take" is'nt perfect. Is it like a film set where the production staff come and say "ready take 2" or 3 or 4 or 5 or however many takes until the producers are happy with it. If thats the case, then that would make it total farce.
I like elements of the US show that I hope the British version will adopt. I like the HOH and Veto competitions as it makes people REALY work hard to win. After seeing how lacklusture the British housemates took the weekly task last year, it would give them a kick up the ass if they had their place in the house at stake. |

There is REAL gameplay, meaning behind the tasks and the nominations. It's more a challenge than a popularity contest. |
