Twice now my DMR-EZ27 DVD recorder has somehow got itself into a state where it won't switch into standby. Everything else works fine - it will still play, record, change channels, navigate menus etc. It just won't switch off, nothing happens when I press the standby button on the remote or the power button on the front of the unit. On both occasions I had to unplug the unit from the power socket to get it working normally again.

I normally have it set to "power save" mode, but switching this mode off still didn't allow me to put the unit in standby.

Is this a known problem?

Not a specific known problem no... but such operating corruption can be commonplace is a general problem with micro-driven equipment.. and the remedy is as you did ... to power-reset.


Corruption occurs for a variety of reasons. It can get in via dirty mains, through signal corruption via the aerial ... or this sort of problem can be generated by giving too many remote instructions too quickly.

Could this have anything to do with the fact that I've set the remote control codes to "DVD2" so as not to conflict with my Panasonic DVD player?

At least twice out of the four times this has now happened, I was watching a DVD on the player while recording something on the DMR-EZ27. Every time I operate the DVD player's remote, the recorder flashes "DVD2" up on the display, presumably to warn me the remote is using a different set of codes (before I changed them, both remotes operated both units!)

I was almost convinced that it was using the player while the recorder was switched on that was causing the problem, until this morning when it happenned while the player was swtched off and not being used.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
